August 21
12:07 p.m. – Drayton Valley – Request to assist Child and Family Services as they had been trying to interview some children over safety concerns and were being blocked by the parents. Member attended and obtained the cooperation of the parents to allow CFS to conduct their investigation.
9:57 p.m. – Drayton Valley – 50 St –Members attended a residence due to a report of a domestic. Allegedly there had been a struggle and the male broke the female’s cell phone. The male had left the residence in his vehicle but could not be located. Under investigation.
August 22
3:47 a.m. – Brazeau County – Violet Grove area – Complainant reported a male in a residence freaking out, thinking someone was in the house which caused him to wield an axe and a two-by-four. Members attended and restrained the male until paramedics arrived. The male was transported to hospital for assessment.
11:53 a.m. – Lodgepole area – Complainant reported someone cut a lock on a lease site gate and stole copper wire.
3:21 p.m. – Brazeau County – Members were dispatched to a possible missing person who was driving his girlfriend’s truck. Members located the truck and attempted a traffic stop, but the driver fled and began driving erratically around town. Members were able to track the truck until it stopped in a parking lot and the driver got out. A 43-year-old male was arrested and held for a telephone bail hearing on nine new charges: dangerous operation of a motor vehicle, flight from police, drive while prohibited, and six counts of failing to comply with probation. He also had three active arrest warrants from other jurisdictions. He was remanded in custody by a justice of the peace.
3:34 p.m. – Drayton Valley – Complainant attended the detachment to report a Bitcoin fraud. The complainant had deposited about $5,000 after being told to, allegedly by CSIS. Member confirmed this was a scam and advised that his lost funds were virtually untraceable and investigative options were very limited.
6:21 p.m. – Drayton Valley – 50 Ave – Complainant reported possible stolen bikes in front of a motel, after seeing people stripping bikes that “definitely didn’t belong to them.” Member attended and located two bikes but no evidence of stolen property. File open for follow up.
10:49 p.m. – Drayton Valley – 52 Ave – Members attended to a disturbance near the bar; a male had been kicked out due to intoxication but continued hanging around the ongoing adjacent street party. A member attempting to speak to the male was pushed in the chest which led to a night of reflection in cells for the intoxicated male.
11:46 p.m. – Drayton Valley – 51 St – Member on patrol observed a male urinating on the wall of the Eleanor Pickup Arts Center, right next to a porta-potty. The male was ticketed appropriately.
August 23
4:40 a.m. – Drayton Valley – 50 Ave – Members conducting a rolling checkstop for impaired drivers obtained a “caution” sample from a male. As a result, he was issued a three-day provincial impaired driving suspension, and his truck was towed. Happily, multiple other drivers were sober.
2:53 p.m. – Parkland County – Moon Lake area – Member responded to a crash notification. At the scene it was found that a male who had been riding his dirt-bike called for a friend to pick him up when the dirt-bike broke down. When the friend arrived, the power steering on his truck gave out causing a collision and leading to the crash notification. The driver of the truck was issued a ticket as he had only a learner’s licence and no supervisor.
8:03 p.m. – Brazeau County – Complainant reported her ex had damaged her lawn and had been otherwise harassing her. Under investigation.
9:22 p.m. – Brazeau County – Complainant reported a break and enter to his rural property. Members attended and found a shed, Sea-Can and cabin broken into and an ATV and side-by-side missing. The ATV and side-by-side were located nearby a couple days later. Under investigation.
August 24
6:46 a.m. – Drayton Valley – Complainant reported a female missing; family concerned over some apparent troubling life choices. Member investigated and eventually determined the female was at a hospital in Edmonton after a collision that Edmonton Police were investigating.
1:02 p.m. – Drayton Valley – Complainant reported harassment after a black SUV was seen in the parking lot of his business several times with someone filming him. Member investigated and found that it was related to a dispute at a different business and a belief that an employee from the dispute location was now working at the complainant’s business. Member spoke to the owner of the black SUV and suggested some more appropriate options to deal with disputes.
10:36 p.m. – Brazeau County – Complainant reported that sometime in the past two days culprits entered a lease site and used a vehicle to pull down a power pole and steal wire.
August 25
8:17 a.m. – Drayton Valley – 54 St – Complainant reported a shed broken into overnight; tools, batteries and a lawnmower were stolen. Under investigation.
8:24 a.m. – Lodgepole area – Complainant reported a lease site broken into over the previous 24 hours; tools, supplies and two Scott airpacks were stolen.
10:01 a.m. – Drayton Valley – File opened to add a warrant for probations for a female who failed to comply with her conditions.
10:30 a.m. – Drayton Valley – Complainant reported her car was egged overnight. Member was unable to crack the case.
11:34 a.m. – Brazeau County – RR 80 – Complainant reported a disturbance at a neighbour’s residence as a female could be heard screeching and telling someone to stop. Members attended and found paramedics already on scene. Members learned that the screaming was caused by a dislocated knee causing agonizing pain. Members remained to assist in loading the patient for transport.
11:41 a.m. – Drayton Valley – 47 Ave – Complainant reported his phone had been hacked. Member attended and learned that the complainant had been sending intimate photos to a female he met on a social media app and the “female” was now demanding Apple gift cards or “she” would send the photos to his family. Member provided some advice on how to proceed, such as don’t send any money and don’t send nudes.
11:48 a.m. – Drayton Valley – File opened to add a warrant for probations for a male who failed to comply with conditions.
12:09 p.m. – Drayton Valley – A male attended the detachment to drop off some firearms that belonged to another male who he had a falling out with. Firearms to be picked up by the owner.
1:50 p.m. – Brazeau County – Bear Lake area – Complainant reported that suspects from a recent break and enter to his recreational property were back on scene. Members attended and detained a person in the area, but he was subsequently released due to lack of evidence. A side-by-side stolen on Aug. 23 was located while members were on scene, and a second ATV was also found stashed in the bush later by the complainant. While members were in the area a pickup truck stolen from Rocky Rapids area on July 30 was also recovered, though it had been stripped of many useful parts.
4:24 p.m. – Drayton Valley – Madsen Ave – Members responded to a report that a parked car had been hit near the hospital, and that the suspect driver appeared under the influence. Members found the driver to be impaired by drugs (cannabis), and the vehicle was not insured or registered. The 63-year-old driver was issued a 24-hour suspension and ticketed for operating with no insurance or registration.
4:42 p.m. – Brazeau County – Hwy 22 – Complainant reported a black GMC driving erratically, southbound toward Drayton Valley. Members located the truck and issued a MAS (mandatory alcohol screening) demand; the driver was found to be completely sober. Based on the observed bag of take-out food, members suspected it to be a case of distracted by burger.
10:32 p.m. – Brazeau County – Members assisted a Brazeau County peace officer after a driver fled when a traffic stop was attempted. The driver entered a driveway and ran into the house. Members were in the process of obtaining a warrant to enter the residence when the male came out and surrendered; he was turned over to the peace officer to deal with.
11:06 p.m. – Brazeau County – Complainant reported hearing gunshots from a rural neighbouring property, and a couple vehicles parked by her driveway. Members attended but were unable to locate the source of the gunshots. A suspicious truck was seized for investigation and several suspect names were obtained.
August 26
1:07 a.m. – Drayton Valley – Splashpark area – Members attended for a report of disturbance with three or four suspects yelling and screaming. Members investigated and found open alcohol in a male’s backpack. Further investigation found the 21-year-old male was breaching several conditions including that he not be around parks or in the presence of anyone under 16. The male was arrested and held for a telephone bail hearing. The male was remanded in custody by a justice of the peace for court the following day.
11:41 a.m. – Drayton Valley – Complaint via mail that employees of a local company are routinely driving while impaired and frequenting the bar. Information shared with all members.
2:42 p.m. – Drayton Valley – Complainant reported historical physical abuse by her father. Under investigation.
9:53 p.m. – Drayton Valley – Complainant reported a neighbour’s dog had bit her but hadn’t broken any skin. Information forwarded to Drayton Valley Enforcement Services for follow up.
11:55 p.m. – Brazeau County – Hwy 22 – Member on patrol conducted a traffic stop with a truck that had been observed parked in an odd spot. The driver provided two samples of his breath, both results were “fail.” The driver was issued a 90-day provincial impaired driving suspension, and his truck was impounded for 30 days. Don’t drink and drive.
August 27
1:48 a.m. – Drayton Valley – Member on patrol queried a plate on a vehicle parked at a convenience store and noted that the owner had warrants from Calgary Police. As per the request of Calgary Police, the male was arrested and released on an undertaking to appear in court later.
4:00 a.m. – Drayton Valley – 52 Ave – Complainant reported that her downstairs neighbour was banging and yelling at her door, trying to push his way in. Members attended and determined that the neighbour was upset as the complainant apparently has loud copulation and he is fed up. Members worked with both parties to find a resolution and the neighbour provided the complainant with a schedule for her to follow that would better suit his sleep needs.
6:42 a.m. – Drayton Valley – Museum – Complainant reported a loud industrial lawnmower started up at 6 a.m.; complainant asked the operator to stop but the mowing continued. Drayton Valley Enforcement Services to follow up with lawnmower man.
12:08 p.m. – Brazeau County – RR71 – Complainant reported that he parked his truck last night and came out this morning to his driver’s window smashed. No evidence available and no report of theft from the vehicle.
12:37 p.m. – Drayton Valley – Member responded to a neighbour dispute, related to a previous report of a dog bite. Both parties were exchanging insults and threats were being made. Member spoke to both sides and told them to avoid/ignore each other and keep dogs leashed.
1:21 p.m. – Drayton Valley – 53 Ave – Complainant reported that sometime overnight someone smashed her vehicle window, and a front fender was damaged. No surveillance available and nothing left at the scene.
4:00 p.m. – Brazeau County – RR 80 – Complainant reported that her ex threatened to kick her door in over a property dispute. Under investigation.
August 28
2:07 a.m. – Poplar Ridge – Member on patrol stopped a truck due to the colour not matching what was listed on a license plate query. Investigation found that the windshield VIN matched the plate, but a VIN on the door came back to a stolen truck. The truck was seized for further investigation and the driver was arrested for possession of stolen property and released with a court date.
