Over 100 violation tickets were issued by law enforcement in the Drayton Valley area over the course of the Labour Day long weekend.
Parkland RCMP partnered with RCMP Traffic Services, Parkland County Enforcement Services, and Alberta Sheriff Highway Patrol to conduct traffic safety operations.
Of the violation tickets issued, 98 were speeding violations, four were impaired driving tickets and other traffic offences.
Mounties say one driver was clocked going 165 km/hr in a 110km/hr zone.
Inspector Kevin McGillivray, of the Parkland RCMP, thanks the thousands of drivers who passed through the area obeying the rules of the road.
Across the province, Alberta RCMP issued 1,661 tickets over the weekend, 789 of which were for speeding, 34 for distracted driving, and 19 for not wearing a seatbelt. Officers also reportedly removed 99 impaired drivers from the roads.
The RCMP also reported 54 collisions causing injuries, resulting in four deaths.
“Fatal motor vehicle collisions are often avoidable, and we are reminded of this every long weekend when lives are lost due to factors such as drugs, alcohol, and speeding,” comments Sgt. Darrin Turnbull, Alberta RCMP Traffic.
Alberta RCMP reminds residents that traffic safety is a shared responsibility, and asks you to call 911 if you witness dangerous driving.
