It was a close win for the Drayton Valley Thunder Tuesday night, as they beat the Devon Xtreme 3-2 in a shootout.
The first goal of the night went to the Thunder’s Damian Hill with just 1:31 left in the first period, with assists from Taynton Lavender and Tyler Brandebura.
Ethan Andrews fired back for the Xtreme seven minutes into the second frame, making the score 1-1. Jake Malkewich assisted.
Just over a minute later, Lavender, assisted by Lukas Miller and Brandebura, regained the lead for Drayton Valley.
The Xtreme’s Axel Anderson, with helpers from Maxim Radmanovich and Mason Renaud, tied things back up with just 1:15 left in period three, sending the teams into overtime.
After a scoreless OT, the teams moved to a shootout, where Drayton’s Jack Sears was the only one to score.
Following the 3-2 win, the team is now 2-1-0-0 in the pre-season.
The Thunder have four more pre-season games scheduled, the first being Friday, Sept. 5, when they take on the Whitecourt Wolverines at 6 p.m. at the Drayton Valley Omniplex.
The regular season home-opener goes Sept. 19 at the Omniplex at 7 p.m.
