Following a recent board meeting of Wild Rose School Division (WRSD), the property that housed Drayton Valley’s old HW Pickup School has been transferred back to the town.
The property was transferred under the Real Property Governance Act, Education Act, and Disposition of Property Regulation. According to these acts and regulations, education properties are managed by school boards but owned by the provincial government.
The land was previously designated as Municipal Reserve and has returned to the same designation. Town officials say currently, there are no definitive plans for the land.
Additionally, the Breton Elementary property has been identified as having no other present or future government use, so WRSD has been directed to follow the Disposition of Property Regulation.
WRSD says it’s been in discussion with the Village of Breton on this matter, but nothing has been finalized.
