Drayton Valley and the surrounding region is under a special weather statement.
Environment and Climate Change Canada (ECCC) says a long duration heat event is expected over the next seven days.
Daytime high temperatures between 29 to 33 degrees Celsius are expected for communities in central and northern Alberta, while overnight lows of nine to 13 degrees should offer some relief from the heat.
ECCC advises residents in the affected areas to reschedule outdoor activities for the mornings or evenings when temperatures may be cooler.
Extreme heat can affect everyone’s health, officials remind, so watch for signs of heat exhaustion in yourself and others. Signs may include headache, nausea, dizziness, thirst, dark urine and intense fatigue.
This statement is in effect for Brazeau County, Parkland County and other local areas.
