The Drayton Valley Farmers Market is moving to a new location.
The farmers market has acquired a parcel of land at 5015 Industrial Road to become their new, permanent home.
Currently, the farmers market is held in the parking lot of the Life Church from May through September, and moves into the McKenzie Conference Centre from October through December. Officials hope moving the Farmer’s Market into one location will make things much easier.
Drayton Valley Mayor Michael Doerkson is supportive of the move, saying that the farmers market is the very definition of shop local.
“It’s a staple of the community. A lot of people go there for their fresh produce, or for other vendors that are there,” said Doerkson.
Town officials note, the land is currently zoned for Commercial-Light Industrial. However, for the move to go forward, it needs to be rezoned for Direct Control.
Drayton Valley town council will be holding a public hearing on the rezoning at their Sept. 15 meeting.
