The Inaugural Charity Golf Classic for the Town of Drayton Valley and Brazeau County tees off next week, and spots to participate are running out.
Taking place July 18 at the Drayton Valley Golf Club, the fundraising event is limited to 100 players.
“It is going to be jam packed, super exciting, and we are almost sold out,” commented Jennifer Stone, intergovernmental relations and communications for the town.
She said there is still room for two more teams of four and one or two individual players.
Event organizers recently announced that Oilers alumnus Ben Scrivens will be in attendance and registrants have the chance to bid to golf alongside him for the day.
There will also be various hole challenges and food trucks to keep the day interesting, plus extra prizes at the end, including three major hole-in-one rewards.
Sink a ball in one shot, and you could win a new 2025 GMC Canyon valued at over $63,000, or a cash prize of $30,000 or $10,000.
Another boon for NHL fans, the Oilers Entertainment Group is also sending a hockey stick signed by all the team members from the 2024-25 season, to be auctioned off at the end of the day.
The event is the first of its kind for the town, with proceeds set to support three local charities:
- Stollery Children’s Hospital
- Drayton Valley Health Services Foundation eSimulation Lab
- Pembina Crisis Connection Society’s Purple Lights Gala
Stone explained, the idea came from the town’s former interim CAO Pat Vincent, who had run a similar successful event in Chestermere.
“He thought it was a great way to bring the community together, for us to work in partnership with Brazeau County, and an opportunity to give back to some of our local charities and charities that support families in our region,” she said. “It’s one of those pulling together moments that we could bring to the community.”
The charities mentioned above were chosen for their direct impact on the community through support to domestic violence victims, and healthcare training and services. Stone noted, although the Stollery Children’s Hospital is in Edmonton, many community members utilize its services.
Proceeds raised will be split evenly between the charities.
The limited spots available can be secured online. The shotgun start is at 9 a.m., followed by a Texas Scramble.
