A heat warning has been issued for Brazeau County near Drayton valley and Breton, as well as Parkland County.
Environment and Climate Change Canada (ECCC) says daytime high temperatures near 30 degrees Celsius combined with overnight lows near 14 degrees Celsius will continue today.
More moderate temperatures are expected Thursday but in the meantime, ECCC recommends rescheduling outdoor activities for cooler hours of the day, taking frequent breaks from the heat and drinking plenty of water. Additionally, pets and children should not be left in vehicles unattended.
Residents are advised to remember to monitor for symptoms of heat stroke or heat exhaustion, such as high body temperature, lack of sweat, confusion, fainting, and unconsciousness.
Infants, children, seniors, individuals with pre-existing lung, heart, kidney, nervous system, mental health or diabetic conditions, outdoor workers and those who are socially isolated may experience earlier or more severe effects and should be paid particular attention, ECCC notes.
Environment and Climate Change Canada issues heat warnings when conditions pose an elevated risk of illnesses like heat stroke or heat exhaustion.
