At Beyond Beauty Salon and Spa, they strive to be a cut above the rest – not just for their skills and passion for the industry, but also for offering real customer care.
Beyond Beauty has been in the business of making people look good and feel good for six years, with roots in Drayton Valley going back over two decades.
Strong supporters of the community and local not-for-profits, the team at Beyond Beauty is as passionate about the salon’s hometown as they are about their clients.
“I found out very quickly that being active in the community was important, not only business wise but personally as well,” says President Karla James. “I have three children who I want to set an example for. Being kind and supportive is something that is overlooked these days.”
Karla herself has volunteered for school breakfast programs, with the salon also making donations.
Beyond Beauty also runs many different events throughout the year, with some kind of charity attached to almost every one. This past Christmas Event was a personal favourite for Karla, raising over $1000 for Cause for Critters, as well as a Cat Condo full of supplies.
When the pandemic started and the shut downs followed, Beyond Beauty received a tremendous amount of support from the community. As a way to give back, they started the “BB Act of Kindness” promotion in January this year.
Each month, the Beyond Beauty Salon and Spa Team choose certain products to be part of the promotion. At the end of every month, $5.00 from each product sold is donated to the BB Act of Kindness fund, which in turn is used to support the local community.
In January, Beyond Beauty dropped off donuts to the other salons in town as a way to say, “We feel you!” February’s money was donated to the Mat Program. In March they bought $200 worth of coffee to be given out in the Tim Hortons’ drive thru. Donations were made to Warming Hearts and Burden Barriers in April and May. And in June they bought 150 Dairy Queen cones for people to enjoy!
“Doing these acts of kindness makes us and hopefully our clients feel like we are part of something special,” says Karla. “There’s so much negativity in this world that my goal is to genuinely share love and be kind.”
“I was raised in this community and now I’m raising my children here,” Karla continues. “I want to be a example of what community means, show people that kindness is out there. I am so proud to be part of a community that pulls together.”
