A food recall has been issued for two brands’ of Genoa and Genova salami products due to a salmonella contamination.
The affected products include the Bona brand’s mild Genova salami and the Rea brand’s sweet and hot variations of Genoa salami.
Products were distributed across Alberta, Manitoba and Toronto. In addition to the chart below, barcode information and images of the impacted products are available online.
Please check to see if you have these recalled products and do not consume, serve, sell, use or otherwise distribute them if you do. Recalled products should be thrown out or returned to the place they were purchased.
According to the Public Health Agency of Canada, 44 Albertans and 13 Ontarions have fallen ill so far, with seven people needing hospitalization.
The organization also notes the impacted products may have been used in prepared products like sandwiches or sold at deli counters.
Officials say food contaminated with salmonella may not look or smell spoiled, but can still make you sick. Symptoms can include, fever, headache, vomiting, nausea, abdominal cramps and diarrhea. Children, pregnant women, the elderly and those with weakened immune systems may contract a serious or potentially deadly infection.
