H.W. Pickup School and the Drayton Valley Thunder Junior A organization are in the process of entering a strategic partnership to enhance the Student-Athlete Development Program.
In collaboration with the Wild Rose School Division, the groups are exploring how to integrate the expertise of the Thunder into the school’s Career and Technology Foundations (CTF) programming, starting next school year.
The partnership is intended to prepare Grade 5-8 students for high-performance environments through advisory insight, access to specialized community resources and talent development via direct mentorship.
Officials say this is the first phase of a three- to five-year strategic roadmap. Long-term goals of the partnership include:
- Division-wide opportunities: expanding the “student-athlete” model to create more potential opportunities for athletes across the entire Wild Rose School Division.
- Career pathways: Students will explore the multi-billion-dollar sports industry, from performance analysis to coaching and officiating certifications.
- Sustainable talent pipelines: Creating a seamless transition for athletes from middle school programs to senior high school sports performance modules and dual-credit opportunities.
The organizations say a pilot event is scheduled for April to kick off the collaboration.
More information on the partnership will be shared as details are finalized.
