Three local legends were the first to be inducted into the newly established Drayton Valley and Area Hall of Fame during a celebration on Feb. 20.
Alex Blais, Garry Nelson and Brian Winder were all recognized for their contributions to the Drayton Valley community during a special induction ceremony last week.
The Drayton Valley and Area Hall of Fame was created to honour those whose exceptional service and accomplishments have left a lasting impact on the region.
Organizers say this inaugural class of inductees truly embodies the spirit of Drayton Valley, representing decades of dedication, leadership and impact across athletics, community building and civic growth.
Alex Blais moved to Drayton Valley in 1978 and founded Link Hardware (later Home Hardware). His leadership has also led to the launch and strengthening of the Rotary Club, Drayton Valley Thunder, Thunder in the Valley Drag Races, Opportunity home and the Drayton Valley Community Foundation.
Born in 1955, Garry Nelson was raised on a farm in Buck Creek. After starting in the oilfield at 16, he and his brother went on to found Nelson Vacuum Services in 1976, then Nelson Bros Oilfield Services in 1987 — two companies that have become pillars of Drayton Valley’s energy sector.
Brian Winder’s life has been defined by family, community, generosity and a steadfast commitment to improving the lives of others. He built a successful, family-run business, Brandette Well Servicing Ltd., from the ground up. Hall of Fame organizers, say that company has become synonymous with integrity, hard work and community spirit, as Winder has consistently given his time and resources to support those in need.
