The Drayton Valley Thunder saw mixed results over the weekend, falling 2-1 to the Calgary Canucks on Saturday, but beating the Olds Grizzlys 6-3 on Sunday.
On Feb. 21, there was no scoring in period one.
With assistance from Taynton Lavender and Keston Beagle, the Thunder’s Caedem Emmett scored the team’s only goal of the game, his ninth of the season, at 10:20 in the second frame, which Calgary answered about two minutes later for a 1-1 tie.
The Canucks would add one more to their total with just under two minutes to play in the third period to make it a 2-1 final in favour of Calgary.

On Sunday, Taynton Lavender opened the scoring in Drayton Valley’s favour with a powerplay goal at 6:30. Daniel Zhou and Colson Ganser assisted. The Grizzlys tied that lead up at 1-1 before the end of the frame.
Period two saw Olds score twice more, including one on the powerplay for a 3-1 lead. At 9:09, Lavender scored his 13th goal of the season to narrow that lead to 3-2. Keston Beagle and Will Jamieson assisted.
Drayton dominated in the third frame though with four more goals, propelling the team to a 6-3 victory.
Caedem Emmett scored his 10th goal of the season at 3:31, with assistance from Colson Ganser and Loughlan McMullan.
Then, at 5:42, Lukas Miller and Kingston Sauter assisted Avery Watson with a goal.
Antonio Bevacqua scored less than two minutes later, with Damian Hill and Taynton Lavender getting the helpers.
The game’s final goal was an empty-netter by Dane Pyatt, his ninth of the season, assisted by Damian Hill.
The Drayton Valley Thunder are still sixth in the AJHL South Division, with a record of 14-27-3-2.
Their next game is Tuesday, Feb. 24, 2026, 6:00 p.m. at the Team Auctions Centre against the Whitecourt Wolverines.
