The Drayton Valley Thunder finished their home stand last weekend with mixed success.
Friday, they handed a 3-1 decision to the Fort McMurray Oil Barons.
The Oil Barons opened the scoring in period one, but the Thunder’s Loughlan McMullan answered for a 1-1 tie at 12:27, his 10th of the season. Dane Pyatt and Breken Northgrave assisted.
In period two, McMullan earned a minor for kneeing, and Fort McMurray scored with 31 seconds left on the powerplay to make it 2-1 Fort Mac.
With the Thunder down by one to start period three, they held off the Oil Barons until the last 48 seconds of the game, when Fort McMurray’s Drew Freer scored an empty-netter and secured the 3-1 victory.

Sunday evening, on the other hand, the Thunder trounced the Devon Xtreme 5-2 in front of 955 spectators, the largest of their home stand.
Daniel Zhou started the action off with a powerplay goal at 5:02, his nonth of the season.
The Xtreme answered about three minutes later to make it 1-1, but Zhou scored again to put Drayton Valley back in the lead at 2-1.
Drayton’s Antonio Bevacqua kept that momentum going with an unassisted goal at 15:23 to make it 3-1. It was his seventh goal of the season.
In period two, Colson Ganser scored another for the Thunder, with the helpers going to Caedem Emmett and Cohen Carter. It was Ganser’s sixth of the season.
A 4-1 lead then became 4-2 in the third frame after the Xtreme netted one, but Jack Sears scored for the Thunder again before the buzzer sounded for a 5-2 victory. His powerplay goal was assisted by Colson Ganser and Taynton Lavender and was his eighth of the season.
The Devon Xtreme and Drayton Valley Thunder are now both sixth in their respective AJHL divisions, but the Xtreme are three points ahead with a record of 14-25-4-1. The Thunder have a record of 13-26-3-2.
