It’s a packed weekend, with Valentine’s Day on Saturday, Feb. 14 and Family Day on Monday, Feb. 16, and two communities have activities in store.
Drayton Valley
The Town of Drayton Valley is hosting a Winter Classic on Monday at the Team Auctions Centre. From 10 a.m. to 5 p.m., families can enjoy a host of free activities.
Face painting runs 11 a.m. to 2 p.m., hamburgers and hot dogs will be available at noon and Boston Pizza will bring pizza at 4 p.m. Attendees can also enjoy a three-versus-three hockey tournament, a snow graffiti art station and an ice sculpture artist.
The tournament schedule is as follows:
- Ages five to eight: 10 a.m. to 12 p.m.
- Ages nine to 13: 1:30-3:30 p.m.
- Ages 14-17: 5-7 p.m.
Prizes will be awarded to the winning teams and for the best team costumes.
Otherwise, Drayton Valley and District Family and Community Support Services (FCSS) is encouraging residents to spend Family Day unplugged. If the Winter Classic isn’t your family’s speed, you could try playing board games, going tobogganing, going for a walk or baking together.
You can also track the hours your child spends device-free that day and report them to their school teacher for a chance to win a prize pack from Aim for Success or a pizza party from FCSS.
Breton
Breton residents can start their Family Day with a pancake breakfast at the Breton Community Centre, running 8:30 to 10:30 a.m. Users are asked to pay what they can.
A balloon artist and face painter will be on the scene from 9-11 a.m. as well. Attendees can also enjoy family games and a craft area during that time.
For $10, attendees can also receive two to four family photos, although limited spaces are available. If you would like your family photo taken, register by contacting fcss@breton.ca or 780-696-3636.
Residents are also invited to bring their own materials for a hot dog roast at RV Park, or enjoy ice skating, weather permitting.
