Parkland RCMP recently arrested a male allegedly seen walking along a roadway with a rifle.
On Tuesday, Feb. 10, Parkland RCMP General Investigation members were in Paul First Nation when they say they observed a man walking down the road with a rifle in his hands, near Township Road 530 and Range Road 34.
Police say school had recently ended for the day, and a school bus was observed nearby.
Officers quickly disarmed the male, who was reportedly subject to a court order prohibiting the possession of firearms. He allegedly had a bolt-action rifle, an air pistol and a small quantity of methamphetamine in his possession.
A 27-year-old male, residing in Paul First Nation, faces one count of possession of a firearm while prohibited by court order and one count of careless use of a firearm.
He is due before the Alberta Court of Justice in Mayerthorpe on Feb. 12.
“It was a case of being in the right place at the right time and acting decisively,” said Corporal Mitch Rondeau, Parkland RCMP. “I’m very proud of the members involved; their quick response prevented any further risk to the public.”
