The Drayton Valley Thunder split their home games over the weekend, winning 4-2 over Drumheller Saturday night but losing 4-1 to Olds on Sunday.
Saturday’s game against the Dragons had a scoreless first period before the Thunder opened the scoring just 29 seconds into the second period with Caedem Emmett scoring his eighth of the season with help from Daniel Zhou to make it 1-0.
Drumheller would tie it up 1-1 at the 11:50 mark when Jacob Goudreau picked up his 10th of the season, unassisted.
The third period saw the Dragons pull ahead 2-1 when Cameron Johnsen scored his first of the season at 5:47, with assists from Lauchlan Kozicky and Matthew Hilderman.
The Thunder tied it up again two minutes later though, when Loughlan McMullan scored a shorty to make it 2-2.
Drayton Valley then took a 3-2 lead at 11:09 when Avery Watson scored his eighth of the season with Jack Sears assisting on the play.
The Thunder’s Loughlan McMullan, however, secured the victory when he scored an empty-netter, unassisted at 19:56, to make it a 4-2 final.
Between the pipes, Thunder netminder Kellen Salter stopped 35 of 37 shots on goal, while the Dragons Brandon Williams stopped 23 of 26.

On Sunday, with the Olds Grizzlys in town, the opening period also had no goals, until Presley Kerner scored his fifth of the season for the visitors at 1:31 of the second period to make it 1-0. Koray Bozkaya assisted on the powerplay goal following a slashing penalty to Drayton Valley’s Cohen Carter.
The Thunder would tie it up 1-1 at 8:54, though when Taynton Lavender scored his 11th of the season with help from Jack Sears and Caedem Emmett.
Olds would go on to score three unanswered goals in the third period to make it a 4-1 final.
Between the pipes, Thunder netminder Kaden Clegg stopped 32 of 36, while Grizzlys goaltender Cole Prelusky stopped 43 of 44 shots on goal.
