The Canmore Eagles snapped the Drayton Valley Thunder’s three-game win streak on Friday, Dec. 12, with a 3-2 victory.
Drayton’s Avery Watson scored unassisted at 2:34. Canmore answered with one of their own about 10 minutes later for a 1-1 tie.
The Eagles scored the only goal in period two for a 2-1 lead, but the third frame saw the Thunder lead the action at 0:31 with a goal from Keston Beagle to tie it again. Dryden Tomkow got the helper.
At 7:38, Drayton’s Avery Watson delivered a check to the head and landed himself in the box, sending Canmore to the powerplay, where the team secured their 3-2 win.
On Saturday, the Drumheller Dragons dominated Drayton 4-1.
The Dragons ended period one with a 2-0 lead, and no goals were made in period two. Two more pucks found their mark before minute 12 of period three for an unanswered four-point lead.
Lukas Miller netted the Thunder’s only point at 12:45, with assistance from Danial Zhou.
Drumheller also outshot Drayton 41-22 over the course of the game.
The Drayton Valley Thunder are fifth in the AJHL South Division, one point ahead of the last-place Olds Grizzlys.
