The Town of Drayton Valley has released more details about the Mayor’s Task Force on the Unhoused Committee.
The terms of reference state that Drayton Valley’s town council wants to ensure every option to manage the unhoused situation has been fully explored, and a formal strategy can be established to guide the way forward.
The following factors will be considered in the committee’s research:
- The effect on the community.
- The history of homelessness locally, regionally, nationally and internationally.
- Roles and responsibilities of different levels of government and law enforcement.
- Services and supports available and/or needed within the community.
- Advocacy requirements, if needed.
The committee will consist of the following members:
- One Drayton Valley council representative
- One Brazeau County council representative
- One member of the Drayton Valley RCMP
- One Drayton Valley community peace officer
- One Alberta Health Services representative
- One Opportunity Home representative
- One Warming Hearts Society representative
- One Humans Helping Humans Foundation representative
- Five members at large
According to the town, the committee is expected to submit a public report to council in the autumn of 2025, which will form the framework for an operational plan.
