Two Drayton Valley Thunder and one Devon Xtreme players make up this week’s AJHL weekly award winners for Oct. 20-26.
Jack Sears of the Thunder is Player of the Week, Taynton Lavender of the Thunder is Defensive Player of the Week, and the Xtreme’s Ben Deacon is Rookie of the Week.
Per the AJHL:
“Sears (2006) led all AJHL skaters with six points in two games played from October 20th-26th, 2025. The Thunder recorded their third consecutive win on October 25th with a 4-1 final over the visiting Calgary Canucks and Sears picking up two assists in the victory. The next day, Jack recorded a career-high four-point game with an assist on each of the Thunder goals in a 6-4 loss to the Devon Xtreme. He is second in team scoring with 14 points (3G, 11A) in 12 games played.
“Thunder teammate Taynton Lavender is the Alberta Ford Dealers AJHL Defensive Player of the Week. The 2006-born defenceman had four points (3G, 1A) in two games and currently leads all AJHL defenceman with 17 points through 12 regular season games.
“Lavender scored a powerplay goal in Saturday night’s win over the Canucks. He scored two more powerplay markers and an assist in a third period comeback effort on Sunday but fell short in a 6-4 loss in Devon. Lavender was recognized as the Bunge AJHL Player of the Game. The second-year Thunder forward has recorded a point in all but two regular season games.
“Devon Xtreme forward Ben Deacon has been selected as the Inter Pipeline AJHL Rookie of the Week after leading all first-year players with five points (2G, 3A) in two wins last week. The 18 year-old forward is enjoying a four-game point streak totaling seven points.
“Ben Deacon (St Albert, AB) opened the scoring for the Xtreme with a short-handed goal on October 24th then added two assists to defeat the Olds Grizzlys 4-1. Deacon scored the game winner and added an assist in a 6-4 win over the visiting Thunder on October 26th to extend the Xtreme winning streak to three games. He is fourth among AJHL rookies with 12 points (7G, 5A) in 10 games played.”
Up next for the Drayton Valley Thunder is a Halloween road date with the Lloydminster Bobcats.
The Devon Xtreme are set for back-to-back road contests in Grande Prairie on Oct. 29 and 30.
