Thorsby and Breton RCMP have laid charges in relation to a fatal collision that occurred in Leduc County in June this year.
On the evening of June 28, RCMP responded to a report of a serious collision on Highway 778 at Township Road 490 in Leduc County. Two occupants from a Chevrolet Silverado were pronounced dead at the scene, a 30-year-old male from Calmar and a 31-year-old female from Edmonton.
The initial investigation suggested a Dodge Ram was heading westbound along Township Road 490 and failed to obey a stop sign, where it allegedly collided with the Silverado travelling north on Highway 778.
Following the investigation, 41-year-old John David Tobin, of Edmonton, has been charged with:
- Operation while impaired by alcohol causing death (x2)
- Operation while over 80mg% alcohol causing death (x2)
- Dangerous operation of a motor vehicle causing death (x2)
Tobin was taken before a justice of the peace and initially remanded into custody. His next court date is set for Oct. 23, 2025, at the Alberta Court of Justice in Leduc.
