The municipal election is coming up on Oct. 20, and there’s a few important things to remember in the lead up to the main event.
On Thursday, Oct. 9, The Drayton Valley and District Chamber of Commerce is hosting a candidate forum from 7-9 p.m. at the CETC Centre (5400 22 Avenue). Doors open at 6 p.m. and admission is free.
Attendees can meet their local candidates and — as long as everyone is orderly and respectful — ask all your pressing questions.
Advance voting takes place one week later on Oct. 16 from 12-6 p.m.
On election day, Oct. 20, polls will be open from 10 a.m. to 8 p.m.
Both advance and election day voting will be held at the MacKenzie Conference Centre (5745 45 Street).
Electors are reminded to register to vote proactively to save yourself time the day of. If your name is not on the voter register when you arrive, you will need to complete a form before casting your ballot.
You can register or check your registration status through Voterlink.
You’ll also need to bring one or more of the acceptable forms of ID required by the Local Authorities Election Act. Only one piece of photo identification provided by the Canadian government, whether federal, provincial, or local, that includes your name and current address is needed. If you do not have government-issued photo identification, you will need to provide two pieces of ID, both with your full name and one with your current address. A list of eligible documents is available under “Voter Identification” here.
Unofficial election results will be published as they become available, and the official count will be posted by noon on Oct. 24.
