The Town of Drayton Valley will soon be reaching out to residents with a Request for Proposal for a collaborative approach to maintaining the outdoor rink.
The rink is located in Discovery Park and the town says it often falls low on the list of priorities during the winter, as staff need to focus on priority routes and snow removal, so a collaborative approach to upkeep could improve the user experience.
In May of 2021, the town and the Drayton Valley Minor Ball Association signed an agreement regarding upkeep and maintenance of the local ball diamonds. Regular repairs are still done by the town, but the agreement enables the association to do additional upkeep the town does not provide. For example, if the association is hosting a ball tournament and would like the grass mowed right before the weekend, it’s able to do so itself.
Additional repairs and enhancements are also welcome to be made at the association’s expense. The town feels this model allows the community to take ownership and pride in what they feel most passionate about, and would be a good fit for the outdoor rink.
Town council endorsed administration’s Request for Proposal during last week’s meeting and it will be shared on the town’s website and social media once it’s prepared. Anyone may respond to the proposal.
