A Drayton Valley resident has been arrested and charged following serious threats reported last week.
On the morning of Sept. 11, Drayton Valley RCMP received a report regarding a man they say threatened to kill a member of the public as well as RCMP members, should they get involved. Police also obtained information that the suspect had access to firearms.
Officers confirmed the victim was somewhere safe and began obtaining warrants. The Alberta RCMP Emergency Response Team and Police Dog Services were also called to assist the situation.
Before police could execute warrants they had obtained, they say the suspect fled the scene. He was later identified and arrested by Wetaskiwin RCMP, allegedly in connection to a stolen vehicle they located.
As a result, 35-year-old Shane Curtis Seely has been arrested and charged with uttering threats (x2), uttering threats towards police, possession of stolen property over $5,000, and robbery.
The firearms were determined to be imitations and were found in an open gun safe, officers report.
Seely was brought before a justice of the peace and remanded into custody. He is to appear before the Alberta Court of Justice in Drayton Valley on Sept. 16.
“I want to take the opportunity to thank the various units and detachments who came together to assist on this file,” commented S/Sgt. Ryan Hoetmer, Detachment Commander, Drayton Valley RCMP. “This just goes to show the resources and the reach that your Alberta RCMP has within the province and how, by being one police force, we can effectively communicate and coordinate, resulting in the arrest of those who would cause harm within our communities.”
