The Drayton Valley Thunder took on the Devon Xtreme Friday night and fell 4-2 in their final preseason game, for a 2-4-1-0 exhibition run.
Devon’s Jeremy Friesen started the action off at 6:15, with assistance from Devon Boyle and Ashton Lee. Less than a minute later, Aiden Bruce scored again for the Xtreme, for a quick 2-0 lead.
The Thunder’s Caedem Emmett followed up with a goal just 34 seconds later, his fourth in exhibition action, and brought the teams to 2-1. Will Jamieson and Colson Ganser got the helpers.
In the second, the Xtreme’s Ryan Richardson, with Aiden Bruce, secured another insurance goal for a 3-1 lead halfway through the frame.
Period three saw the Thunder’s second goal of the night at 16:26, scored by Daniel Zhou, with support from Taynton Lavender and Billy Hooson.
But the 3-2 standing was short lived, as Nolan Eastwood and Ryder Mead fired back for Devon about a minute later, securing the team’s 4-2 victory.
Neither side capitalized on the six power play opportunities they saw throughout the game.
The regular season home opener for the Thunder goes Sept. 19 at 7 p.m. against the Olds Grizzlys.
