In their second preseason faceoff, the Drayton Valley Thunder fell 3-2 to the Whitecourt Wolverines at JDA Place Thursday night.
A slow first period saw Wolverine Ryan Pedersen take a holding minor at 14:35, followed by Drayton’s Cale Chimera going to the box for slashing.
Most of the action took place in frame two, where the first goal of the night was scored by the Thunder’s Caedem Emmett at 2:44. He was assisted by Will Jamieson and Taynton Lavender.
Whitecourt’s Carson Yates fired back just over four minutes later for the Wolverines, with the helper going to Mason Russell.
The Wolverines broke the 1-1 tie at 15:08 thanks to a shot from Parker Fitzgerald, supported by Wyatt Ball and Spencer Claerhout.
With assistance from Lukas Miller and Dylan Snelgrove, Drayton’s Colson Ganser tied it up again 2-2 at 17:06.
The teams battled it out in the third, with the Thunder staving off the Wolverines until the last 46 seconds of the frame, when Ty Rayan, assisted by Stefan Serediak, boosted Whitecourt to finish 3-2.
Whitecourt saw two power play opportunities over the course of the game and Drayton saw five, but neither team capitalized.
The Thunder are back in action tonight, Sept. 12, at the GFL Twin Arena against the Devon Xtreme. It’s a 7 p.m. face off, with Drayton sitting at 2-3-1-0 in the preseason.
