Entwistle is saddling up for its 40th annual rodeo, coming back with a kickoff night on July 25 and the main events July 26-27.
Rodeo treasurer Shawn Korchinsky said he expects about 300-400 contestants over the weekend.
“It’s been really good. We get a lot of good cowboys out there, we’ve got great stock,” he commented.
Friday night will see the revival of the old bar challenge, where five local bars pitch into a cash pot, pick a rider, and stick them on a wild horse to see who stays on the longest.
There will also be wild cow milking, calf scrambles, and mutton bustin’ for different age groups. To enter, call 780-241-0789 by July 10.
The gates and beer gardens open at 5 p.m., with events beginning at 6 p.m.
Tickets for Friday night are $10 for adults, $5 for students and seniors and free for ages six and under.
Saturday starts off with a timed event slack at 10 a.m., with the official performances at 2 p.m. on Saturday and Sunday.
The evening will end with a family dance from 8 p.m. to 1 a.m., with entertainment by Never Too Late.
Tickets for the main rodeo event are $15 for adults, $10 for seniors and students, $5 for those ages seven to 14 and free for those six and under. A six-member family day pass is also available for $50.
On-site camping is also available for $25 per unit, per night.
In addition to rodeo action, there will be a raffle for a YETI cooler filled with assorted liquor and wearable merchandise. Tickets are $20.
Event organizers note this is a cash-only event due to the location, and pets are not allowed. Service animals must have the proper associated paperwork for entry.
