With warm, windy and dry conditions in the forecast, officials with Environment and Climate Change Canada have issued a Fire Restriction for Brazeau County, including the Town of Drayton Valley and the Village of Breton.
Fire Restrictions are put in place when the fire hazard in the area is high to very high, meaning wildfires can start easily from many causes.
Under this restriction, officials say outdoor burning is only allowed in approved pits or burning appliances. Existing permits are still valid but extensions will not be granted and new fire permits will not be issued until the restriction is lifted.
Officials note the following burning is still allowed:
- Safe wood campfires in approved pits.
- Portable propane fire pits.
- Gas or propane stoves and barbeques.
- Charcoal and pellet barbeques.
- Catalytic or infrared-style heaters.
- Approved and certified incinerators for agricultural use.
Residents with questions or concerns are being asked to contact Drayton Valley/Brazeau County Fire Services at 780-514-2216.
