A late March winter storm has led to traffic disruptions on Highway 16, west of Edmonton on Friday, March 28.
As of 10:15 a.m., Parkland RCMP are on the scene of a multi-vehicle collision on Highway 16 near Stony Plain.
Mounties say eastbound traffic on Highway 16 is being redirected, while westbound traffic has been reduced to one lane. Drivers in the area are being told to expect delays.
Police say heavy snowfall over the last 24 hours has created extremely dangerous driving conditions.
Travel is not recommended, however, the RCMP has provided the following advice for anyone who needs to travel on the highway.
- Ensure all windows, side mirrors and lights are properly and completely cleared of snow.
- Help others see you, make sure your lights are turned on.
- Reduce your speed and give yourself more time to slow and stop.
- Listen to the radio or check 511 Alberta for updated road and weather reports.
- Plan extra time to get to your destination.
- Be prepared for changing road and weather conditions. Pack blankets or a winter survival kit, especially if you are planning a trip outside of town.
Updates will be provided as they become available.
