UPDATE: 8:00 a.m., Friday, March 14.
Mayerthorpe RCMP have provided an update on this collision.
Following a short investigation, Mounties say they have been able to determine that the bus was in the center meridian, attempting to cross the highway, when it was struck from behind by a pickup truck, causing a partial spin. Police say they believe low visibility due to blowing snow was a significant factor in this collision.
Officials say eight children were on the bus at the time of the accident and two were transported to hospital to be treated for non-life threatening injuries, along with the driver of the pickup truck.
Mayerthorpe RCMP say the area has been cleared and traffic flow has resumed.
No further updates are expected.
