It was a tough weekend for the Drayton Valley Thunder as they lost all three of their games over the weekend.
Friday night was a 7-0 shutout loss to Canmore, while Saturday night was a 6-3 loss to the Calgary Canucks, with Sunday being a 10-1 loss to the Canucks in Calgary again.
Friday night’s game in Canmore saw the hometown Eagles score three goals in the first period. Those came from Bryson Insinger, who scored the first two, with the third one coming from Rhett Dekowny.
Canmore outshot Drayton Valley 13-7 in the opening 20 minutes.
Canmore’s Cohen Daoust then scored twice for the Eagles in the second period to make it a 5-0 game after 40 minutes.
Canmore outshot Drayton Valley 12-10 in the middle frame.
The third period saw Owen Jones and Bryson Insinger score for the Eagles, giving Insinger a hattrick on the night and a 7-0 shutout victory for the home team.
Drayton Valley outshot Canmore 10-8 in the final period but the Eagles outshot the Thunder 33-27 overall.
Canmore netminder Alexander Scheiwiller made 27 saves on 27 shots on goal during the game while Drayton Valley goaltender Hudson Perry made 26 saves on 33 shots.

On Saturday, the hometown Canucks wasted no time getting on the scoreboard as Hayden Fechner scored just 31 seconds into the game, his 20th of the season, before lighting the lamp again just over three minutes later when he scored his second of the game and 21st of the season to make it a 2-0 game.
Soon after, Nolan Dupont gave the Canucks a 3-0 lead when he scored his 18th of the season.
Drayton Valley’s Luke Marley got the visitors on the board at 9:40 to make it 3-1. It was Marley’s 12th of the season and assisted by Matthias Bessey.
The Thunder’s Anton Yatsyshin closed the gap to 3-2 when he scored his 13th of the season at 11:16, with help from Tafari Chingwaru and Marco Oliviero.
After 20 minutes, the Canucks had outshot the Thunder 17-8.
The second period saw Calgary take a 4-2 when Jack Plandowski scored his 30th of the season at 14:37, before Drayton Valley’s Jack Sears scored his fifth of the season at 19:55 to make it a 4-3 game after 40 minutes.
Calgary outshot Drayton Valley 16-6 in the middle frame.
The third period saw the Canucks add two more from Hayden Fechner and Simon Bowland, respectively, to make it a 6-3 final.
The Canucks outshot the Thunder 12-2 in the third period and 45-16 overall.
Calgary goaltender Lukas Renaud stopped 13 of 16 shots on goal during the game, while Thunder netminder Nicholas Christiano stopped 39 of 44 shots on goal.

On Sunday, the Thunder opened the scoring at 9:32 of the first period with a goal from Dryden Tomkow, his sixth of the season, with help from Caedem Emmett and Brett Wall to make it 1-0. It was the only goal of the first period with Calgary outshooting Drayton Valley 6-4.
Then it was all Calgary after that.
The second period saw the Canucks score three times, with goals from Rhett Melnyk, Hayden Fechner, and Gavin Schmidt to make it 3-1 for the home team after two periods. Calgary also outshot Drayton Valley 14-7 in the second period.
But the third period is where the Canucks truly put the game away, scoring seven more unanswered goals.
Those goals came from Hayden Fechner, Rhett Melnyk, Jack Plandowski, Luc Trevors, Jayden Joly, Bowden Singleton, and another from Plandowski to make it a 10-1 final.
Calgary outshot Drayton Valley 22-1 in the final frame and 42-12 in total.
Canucks goaltender Lukas Renaud stopped 11 of 12 shot on goal during the game, while Drayton Valley netminder Hudson Perry stopped 32 of 42 shot on goal.
The Thunder’s record is now 21-22-4-3, with 49 points, fifth place in the AJHL’s South Division, and out of playoff contention.
Their next game is Saturday, March 8 when they host the Canmore Eagles for a 7:00 p.m. faceoff at the Drayton Valley Omniplex.
