Brazeau County Councillor Kara Westerlund, has been elected as the next President of the Rural Municipalities of Alberta (RMA).
Westerlund will replace Paul McLauchlin, who has led the organization since 2020, and says she plans to continue to advance the RMA’s goals of strengthening Alberta through advocacy and ensuring that rural voices are heard.
Woodlands County Councillor Jim Burrows, was also elected as Vice President, and is expected to transition from his current role as the RMA Board’s District Three Director.
Following these election results, officials say another election was held to fill spots in Districts 1, 3 and 4. As such, the 2024/25 RMA Board of Directors is as follows:
- Kara Westerlund, of Brazeau County – President
- John Burrows of Woodlands County – Vice President
- Jason Schneider of Vulcan County – District 1 Director
- Amber Link of Wheatland County – District 2 Director
- Josh Bishop of the County of Wetaskawin – District 3 Director
- Karen Rosvold of the County of Grande Prairie – District 4 Director
- Kevin Wirsta of the County of St. Paul – District 5 Director
