October 24 – 31, 2024
October 24
8:36 a.m. – Drayton Valley – Detachment – Girls purple bike found outside the detachment, likely dropped off by someone who found it. Bike held for potential return to owner.
10:45 a.m. – Drayton Valley – 51 Ave – Complainant reported a homeless male throwing rocks and swinging a belt around. Members located the male and told him to stop drawing attention to himself. No damage done.
1:29 p.m. – Drayton Valley – Hwy 22/50 St S area – Complainant reported a school bus driving erratically. Patrols made, bus not located. Under investigation.
October 25
12:16 a.m. – Drayton Valley – Industrial Road – Complainant reported that an unknown male had been trying to get into his pickup. The complainant further advised that he and a friend heard sounds, and when they went and checked an intoxicated male was trying the door handle; when they told the male to leave he did so, but then returned. When again told to leave the male hit the complainant on the hand and ran away. Member patrolled the area but did not locate the male.
2:02 p.m. – Drayton Valley – 50 St – Complainant reported a male and female had shoplifted undetermined items from a store. After discussion with the complainant the pair were located and issued trespass notices banning them from returning to the store.
3:35 p.m. – Drayton Valley – Power Ctr Blvd – Complainant reported that the same male and female from the prior called had shoplifted from another store. The offence could not be confirmed sufficiently to support charges, but the two are also now trespassed from this second store.
7:41 p.m. – Drayton Valley – Omniplex – Complainant reported a possible impaired driver who was now in the parking lot. The complainant had observed him driving all over and braking inconsistently. Member attended and located the vehicle; two roadside breath samples were obtained from the driver, both were “fail” results. The drive was issued a provincial impaired driving suspension and his car was impounded.
8:31 p.m. – Drayton Valley – 51 Ave – Complainant reported returning to her parked truck and finding the back window smashed and her purse stolen. The complainant had already cancelled her cards.
9:07 p.m. – Drayton Valley – 51 Ave – Complainant reported two males going in and out of a bank atm lobby smoking possible drugs from a pipe. Members attended and arrested both for drug possession; a search of both located a small quantity of illegal drugs which were seized for destruction. The two were released and sent on their way.
9:50 p.m. – Drayton Valley – 50 St – Complainant reported a male spinning a baton with fire on both ends, in a hotel parking lot. Members attended and did not locate the male, but police later became aware of a gentleman from Grande Prairie currently working in the local oil patch who is a skilled former circus performer who performs such an act.
10:05 p.m. – Drayton Valley – 50 St/50 Ave – Complainant reported that he put his phone down while in 7/11 and having someone steal it. Video surveillance showed the theft but no ID could be made of the suspect. Phone not connected and used only on wi-fi, so tracking is not an option.
October 26
1:46 p.m. – Drayton Valley – Complainant attended the detachment to report a fraud. Complainant was called by Telus and offered a great deal on a new phone and provided all needed information to the caller. The complainant then determined it was a fraud and an account had been opened in her name with another provider, though it had since been shut down. Advise was given on protecting her identity, but solving the fraud is extremely unlikely. Police recommend being wary of such calls and suggest making a call directly to the company to verify the claims or checking the Canadian Anti-Fraud Center website for guidance.
3:55 p.m. – Drayton Valley – 50 St – Complainant reported an intoxicated male in the alley behind a business. Member attended and located the male and confirmed his state of obvious intoxication. The male was arrested and held in cells to sober up.
9:34 p.m. – Drayton Valley – 50 St – Complainant reported a male in the parking lot by the Best Western twirling a flaming stick (see 9:50 p.m., Oct. 25). Members attended and confirmed the male was skilled in the act and not endangering anyone or anything. Member watched the performance all the while wishing he could be that talented.
October 27
12:33 p.m. – Brazeau County – Complainant reported copper wire stolen from a lease site in the Berrymoor area.
5:56 p.m. – Brazeau County – Berrymoor area – Complainant reported wire stolen from a lease site, occurred in the past week.
11:00 p.m. – Drayton Valley – 50 St – Complainant reported her window broken and purse stolen from her car. Occurred over the previous two hours while the car was parked in a parking lot. Under investigation.
October 28
2:14 p.m. – Tomahawk area – Complainant reported to another detachment that his recreational property had been broken into and several items stolen, including a John Deere lawn tractor. The complainant believes the theft occurred sometime in August, but wasn’t noticed until he checked the property on October 25. Under investigation.
5:51 p.m. – Drayton Valley – 63 St – Complainant reported his truck stolen while he was working; truck last seen at around 5:00 a.m. The complainant had a GPS tracker (very good idea) in his truck and advised police where it was currently located. Members attended and located the truck, but no suspects were in the area. Under investigation.
October 29
10:37 a.m. – Drayton Valley – 55 Ave – Complainant reported that sometime in the past 10 days someone tried to steal his truck that was parked on the street by his home. Door locks and ignition damaged, tools stolen, but the suspect was unsuccessful in taking the truck. Under investigation.
12:07 p.m. – Drayton Valley – 50 St – Complainant reported his truck stolen from his workplace during business hours. Members patrolled the area and obtained video surveillance; oddly about an hour later the truck was located returned to an open parking lot behind the business it was stolen from, ignition and door lock damaged. Under investigation.
12:45 p.m. – Brazeau County – Member patrolling a location known for dumping of stolen vehicles, and located an older Dodge Dakota. Member spoke to the owner who stated it had been stolen the day before, though not yet reported. Member had the truck towed for further investigation and seized the plate off it, as it had been reported stolen to police less than an hour earlier, though the actual theft of the plate was anytime within the past two months. Under investigation.
2:09 p.m. – Poplar Ridge area – Member on patrol observed a known male driving a vehicle police knew was owned by another male. Police were also aware that the driver did not have a license. Member conducted a traffic stop which lead to a MAS (mandatory alcohol screening) demand which resulted in two “fail” readings. The driver was issued a provincial impaired driving suspension and the car was impounded.
2:24 p.m. – Poplar Ridge area – Members in the area dealing with the traffic stop from 2:09 p.m. also stopped another truck as that driver was also known to not have a license. Members observed items which lead to a lawful search of the vehicle. Members seized drugs including 9.5 grams of Fentanyl, weapons, stolen cheques and illegal cigarettes. 32-year-old Matthew Dube and 30-year-old Nikita Murray were both arrested and held for telephone bail hearings. Both were subsequently released by a Justice of the Peace to appear in court at a later date.
4:03 p.m. – Poplar Ridge area – Complainant reported that a male was at a vehicle left after police dealt with the above two individuals, and that the person may be trying to break in. Member attended, no new damage to the vehicle and the male was not at the location.
8:16 p.m. – Drayton Valley – 34 Ave – Complainant reported someone tried to steal a truck from a business parking area earlier in the day. Under investigation.
10:48 p.m. – Drayton Valley – 50 St S – Complainant reported a possibly impaired driver leaving from a licensed restaurant. The complainant offered a taxi but the female stated she had a ride. Members located the vehicle in the area and conducted a traffic stop. The driver provided two breath samples, both resulting in “fail” readings. The driver was issued a provincial impaired driving suspension and the vehicle was impounded.
11:05 p.m. – Brazeau County – Hwy 22 – Member on patrol conducted a traffic stop with an older, dark coloured Dodge pickup that appeared to have mechanical issues. The truck then fled from the traffic stop, driving in a manner dangerous to the public. The member did not continue the pursuit for safety reasons. The plate attached was not stolen, but not registered to a vehicle.
October 30
9:30 p.m. – Brazeau County – Hwy 22/North Sask Bridge – Complainant reported an injured deer in the area. A Peace Officer assisted in euthanizing the deer prior to members arriving.
October 31
12:58 a.m. – Drayton Valley – Members located a male driving a vehicle that police recently confirmed was uninsured even though valid appearing documents were previously produced. The male again produced the forged insurance documents and was arrested. The female passenger was also arrested, as she had only been out of custody less than a day. Investigation lead to 49-year-old Jesse Jabs being charged with Uttering a Forged Document, Possession of a Controlled Substance and Failing to Comply with Probation. The passenger, 30-year-old Nikita Murray was charged with Possession of a Controlled Substance and Failing to Comply with a Release Order. Both were held for telephone bail hearings and released by a Justice of the Peace. Several traffic tickets were also issued.
