A Hinton man is facing several charges after fleeing from police following a traffic stop in Brazeau County.
Mounties say at around 5:00 p.m. on Saturday, Nov. 2, officers from the Drayton Valley and Rocky Mountain House Detachments entered into an investigation of a flight from a police officer after a vehicle failed to comply for a traffic stop for dangerous driving on Highway 620.
According to the report, the vehicle that allegedly fled from police was found to be stolen and had been reported by witnesses tailgating other motorists and travelling at more than 150 km/h.
Investigators say the vehicle was later abandoned and the driver was seen attempting to escape officers by fleeing into a nearby wooded area.
In the interest of public safety, officials say numerous police resources were utilized, including the K Division Police Dog Services and Emergency Response Team.
Officers say 24-year-old, Hinton resident, Shayde Beaverbone has been arrested and is facing several charges, including:
- Dangerous driving.
- Fail to stop for a police officer.
- Possession of property obtained by crime over $5000.
- Several firearm offences including possession of a prohibited weapon.
- Resist arrest /obstruct a Peace Officer.
Officials say Beaverbone was taken before a Justice of the Peace and remanded with his next court appearance set for Nov. 5, at the Alberta Court of Justice in Drayton Valley.
