UPDATE: Oct. 16, 2024, 12:00 p.m.
On Oct.15, 2024 at 9:50 p.m. Evansburg RCMP assisted by members of the Maythorpe RCMP and the K-Division Collision Analyst team were dispatched to a report of a fatal pedestrian hit and run on Highway 16. As a result of the investigation, Mounties say a portion of the highway remained closed for several hours, however, it has since reopened.
Police say the investigation is ongoing. According to RCMP, the remains of the deceased were transported to the Office of the Chief Medical Examiner in Edmonton and police are actively working on confirming the identity of the pedestrian. At this time, RCMP are seeking to speak with anyone who travelled on Highway 16 on Oct.15 2024, between the hours of 9:00 p.m. to 9:50 p.m., more specifically, anyone who witnessed a pedestrian on the roadway west of Wildwood, or who may have dashcam footage recorded during this time period.

Evansburg RCMP responded to a serious vehicle collision on Highway 16 on the afternoon of Tuesday, Oct. 15.
RCMP say a serious motor vehicle collision occurred on Highway 16 west, between Range Roads 91 and 94, just outside of Wildwood.
Mounties closed the section of highway for several hours as the Collision Analyst Team conducted their investigation.
According to the Alberta 511 website, Highway 16 west has since been re-opened.
