The Town of Drayton Valley says it has accepted the retirement notice of Chief Administrative Officer (CAO) Wally Ferris.
Mr. Ferris submitted his notice of retirement at the regular meeting of council held Oct. 2, saying it has been his privilege to work with the Town of Drayton Valley administration.
“After much thought and discussion with my family, I’m announcing that I will be retiring from municipal service,” announced Mr. Ferris. “It has been a privilege for me to serve the community and lead the administrative team here in Drayton Valley.”
Drayton Valley Mayor Nancy Dodds thanked Mr. Ferris for his dedicated service.
“Wally has had a positive impact on the organization and the Town,” said Mayor Dodds. “I want to thank him for all he has done to lead the team and the guidance he has provided to Council. We wish him and his family all the best.”
Mr. Hans van Klaveren has been appointed to serve as the acting CAO with Ms. Elvera Thomson serving as the Assistant CAO for the Town of Drayton Valley.
Ferris started as CAO in Drayton in November 2023.
Prior, served as CAO in Sylvan Lake for four years, and also held administrative roles with the City of Fort St. John, the City of Kingston, and the City of Ottawa.
Ferris earned his Masters Certificate in Municipal Leadership from York University in 2008.
