Westlock RCMP have arrested and charged three youths from Edmonton in connection to a stabbing attack in early September and have issued a warrant for the arrest of a fourth suspect.
As the suspects in this case are youths, a publication ban is in place on their names.
Police say on Sept. 7, 2024, they received a report of a stabbing attack in the area of Long Island Lake RV Park in Westlock County. Upon arrival, officers say emergency crews attended to an 18-year-old victim suffering from serious, life-threatening injuries. Officials say the victim was transported to hospital by STARS air ambulance to hospital in Edmonton for further treatment and is expected to make a full recovery.
Westlock RCMP and the Eastern Alberta District General Investigations unit have been working together on this case. Investigators say they have determined that on the morning of Sept. 7, the victim had transported the accused out of the Westlock area when the suspects suddenly attacked and attempted to murder the victim and leave her in a nearby forest.
Investigators, with the assistance of the Eastern Alberta Crime Reduction Unit, say they have identified four suspects in this case and have arrested and charged three with a number of criminal offences including:
- Attempted Murder
- Robbery
- Aggravated assault
A warrant has been issued for the arrest of the fourth suspect, and investigators say efforts are underway to locate the individual.
“The Alberta RCMP dedicated a large number of investigators to quickly solve this priority investigation,” says Staff Sergeant Jeff Sehn. “The ongoing safety of the victim was and remains as our primary concern.”
Officials say the three youths already in custody have been taken before a Justice of the Peace and were remanded into custody with future court dates set with the Alberta Court of Justice in Westlock.
Mounties are asking anyone with information about this investigation or those responsible, to contact the Westlock RCMP immediately at 780-349-4492.
