The Town of Drayton Valley has received a Development Permit application that would see the addition of a 27-suite, three-storey building to the Shangri-La Lodge Seniors Complex.
While this area is zoned for High Density Residential, officials say the public must be notified and provided with an opportunity to provide feedback before the project can move forward.
The applicants also wish to make the following variances to the Land Use Bylaw:
Parking
The applicant says they would only be able to provide the 77 out of the required 100 parking stalls, which is a 23 per cent variance, however, statistics show that only 23 per cent of people over the age of 85 hold a valid driver’s license.
Maximum Density
With this added building, the total number of units would increase to 108, while the parcel only allows for 91.76 units, which is a variance of 16 per cent.
Any residents who do not believe the addition of a building or the requested variances are appropriate or have questions and concerns are being asked to contact the Planning and Development Committee via:
- Phone – 780-514-2219.
- Email – plandev@draytonvalley.ca
- Writing a letter to the Town – Box 6837, Drayton Valley, AB, T7A 1A1.
- In person at the Town of Drayton Valley Civic Centre at 5120 52 Street.
The deadline to submit feedback is 4:30 p.m., on Thursday, Sept. 12.
