The Town of Drayton Valley has been selected as the 2024 Celebrating Oil Country feature town.
Town officials made the announcement via a Facebook post on Wednesday, Aug. 14.
Drayton Valley is the third community to be selected as a featured town, with officials saying the community stood out in the selection process because of the thriving minor hockey program (Go Thunder!), proximity to Edmonton, and the strong presence of dedicated Oilers fans and season ticket holders.
Organizers say the festivities will take place on Friday, Nov. 8, 2024, featuring Oilers alumni, Hunter the Lynx and the Oilers Orange & Blue Ice Crew; as well as executives and other representatives from the Oilers organization who will be touring the community while visiting schools and local businesses. There will also be a civic ceremony celebrating the town and a minor hockey skate.
The Oilers delegation say they will also be attending the Drayton Valley Thunder home game that night as they play their first official game against the newly formed Devon Xtreme, bringing some iconic Oilers game presentation elements with them.
Then on Thursday, Nov. 14, organizers say the Town of Drayton Valley will be featured throughout the Oilers vs. Nashville Predators game, with discounted tickets being made available for Drayton Valley residents in a dedication section at Rogers Place.
