July 25
8:12 a.m. – Brazeau County – Hwy 620 – Complainant reported being run off the road by a pickup passing unsafely. Under investigation, ticket to be issued to owner.
10:28 a.m. – Drayton Valley – Power Ctr Blvd – Complainant reported a prolific shoplifter in a store; suspected to be filling her basket before making a break for it. Members attended, the female hadn’t yet left the store. A trespass notice was served banning her for one year. The female was subsequently arrested on outstanding warrants and held in custody for a telephone bail hearing after which she was remanded in custody.
11:00 a.m. – Drayton Valley – 54 St – Complainant reported a break and enter to a shed. Two suspects identified, under investigation.
2:24 p.m. – Drayton Valley – Complainant reported receiving a phone call from a male with an accent claiming to be a federal employee who said that the complainant’s SIN had been compromised. The complainant provided minimal information. Complainant received a second call from a male with a South Asian accent claiming to be an RCMP Constable from a number appearing as the Drayton Valley RCMP. The complainant was advised on how to proceed and also that there was no such Constable in Drayton Valley, nor was there any such investigation and the call hadn’t come from the detachment. Police recommend trusting your suspicions when receiving such calls.
3:33 p.m. – Drayton Valley – 56 St – Complainant reported theft of scrap from a business yard. Under investigation.
3:47 p.m. – Brazeau County – Lodgepole area – Complainant reported theft of random supplies from a lease site.
5:14 p.m. – Drayton Valley – 50 St – Complainant reported finding four credit cards in a motel room, the last person to occupy the room was arrested and dealt with a couple weeks ago. Under investigation.
9:43 p.m. – Brazeau County – Complainant reported possible physical child abuse by a family member. Under investigation, CFS is aware and safety protocols are in place.
July 26
10:27 a.m. – Poplar Ridge – Members responded to a single vehicle in the ditch. The complainant suspected the driver was impaired in some manner. Members determined the driver was impaired by prescription pills and issued a 24-hour suspension. The car was towed from the ditch.
6:00 p.m. – Drayton Valley – 50 St – Member on patrol observed a suspicious motorbike with a plate attached that was archived and registered to an ATV. Another member attempted a traffic stop, but the bike fled at high speed, northbound on Highway 22. Due to the safety concerns, no pursuit was initiated. The owner of the plate was contacted and it was determined the plate had been stolen.
6:23 p.m. – Brazeau County – Lodgepole area – Complainant reported theft from two different lease sites near Lodgepole. Under investigation.
7:26 p.m. – Drayton Valley – 50 St S/Twp Rd 490 – Member attended to assist a Drayton Valley Peace Officer. The Peace Officer had a vehicle stopped due to excessive speeding and suspected the driver was impaired. Investigation confirmed the driver was impaired; he was issued a provincial impaired driving suspension and his truck was impounded.
10:35 p.m. – Drayton Valley – Omniplex area – Members attended to assist firefighters responding to a report of a campfire during the fire ban. Members and firefighters found that it was not a campfire but a propane fire pit being used, which is not banned.
11:07 p.m. – Drayton Valley – Hwy 22/Jubilee Ave – Member conducted a traffic stop and determined that the driver was impaired. The driver was issued a provincial impaired driving suspension and the vehicle was impounded. #don’tdrinkanddrive.
July 27
11:45 a.m. – Drayton Valley – 52 St – Member on patrol observed a vehicle park in an apartment lot and determined the plate attached shouldn’t be on a vehicle. Investigation lead to the driver being charged with possession of meth and other offences. The driver was also issued several violation tickets and the vehicle was towed.
3:38 p.m. – Drayton Valley – Power Ctr Blvd – Complainant reported that a customer left behind a plastic bag which contained two suspected meth pipes. Member attended and seized the bag, confirming it contained two empty meth pipes. The pipes were destroyed and disposed.
10:39 p.m. – Drayton Valley – Jubilee Ave – Complainant reported a man yelling and screaming at a woman in a motel lot. Members attended and found two sisters having an argument over dogs that another female was looking after. No assault occurred and all parties left, including the third female who was no longer welcome as a motel guest. While on scene, two more calls were received from parties involved, making competing complaints. Luckily police were already on scene.
July 28
6:01 p.m. – Brazeau County – Member received information that a known local male was in possession of a gun, was using a stolen car and had been involved in crime. Information only.
6:30 p.m. – Brazeau County – Members attended a residence to assist a County Peace Officer in serving a ticket to a male who had been contravening the current fire ban. Members attended and assisted as needed while the male ranted about various concerns.
8:15 p.m. – Brazeau County – Complainant reported a theft in progress at a lease site. The suspect had become stuck in a ditch. Members attended and arrested a male still on scene. 28-year-old Jacob Doiron of Drayton Valley was arrested and held for a telephone bail hearing on multiple charges including weapons offences, possession of stolen property and breaches. Doiron was remanded in custody to appear in court at a later date.
8:51 p.m. – Drayton Valley – Complainant reported a neighbour came to his door with a bottle of liquor and threatened the complainant. A neighbour came out to see what the commotion was and it was determined that the suspect was likely at the wrong house as he began yelling targeted and hateful comments toward that person. The suspect then left in a pickup. Member attended and started to investigate but was called away to another matter. Under investigation.
9:44 p.m. – Drayton Valley – 50 St – Complainant reported that a male came into a liquor store and ran out with a couple bottles of liquor. Under investigation.
July 29
8:01 p.m. – Brazeau County – Complainant reported that she paid a large deposit to a company for an item that was to be delivered but was since unable to get in touch with the company. This investigation was forwarded to a provincial investigative unit who advised they were already investigating multiple complaints regarding the same company.
4:08 p.m. – Drayton Valley – 50 St – Complainant reported a male and female had shoplifted several items and then left. Under investigation, potential suspects identified.
July 30
12:50 a.m. – Drayton Valley – 57 Ave – Members on patrol located two suspicious males and a vehicle at the end of 57 Avenue in the Industrial area. The pair were found to be changing the oil on the car. Members determined that the vehicle had been reported stolen in Edmonton and both males were arrested. The subsequent investigation and searches located stolen cheques, identification, 29 grams of methamphetamine and a 9mm pistol magazine with ammunition. 24-year-old Mervin Desjarlais and 30-year-old Michael Ruesch, both of Drayton Valley, were arrested and charged with multiple offences. Both males were held in custody for telephone bail hearings. Ruesch was released by a Justice of the Peace to appear in court at a later date, while Desjarlais was remanded in custody. Further investigation ongoing.
1:01 a.m. – Tomahawk – Complainant reported two males fighting at a neighbour’s residence. Members attended and determined that one male was visiting the ex-girlfriend of the second male and that when the second male arrived he decided to assault the first. Though the parties involved were not cooperative with police, members were able to determine this had been a bad life choice. No charges.
1:59 a.m. – Drayton Valley – Members received an anonymous complaint that two males were at the Splash Park in a black SUV with guns and drugs. Members were dealing with a priority matter (see report at 12:50 am) and unable to patrol at the time. Members were suspicious of the validity of this report, which may have been an attempt to distract members from what they were dealing with at the time. Patrols made when possible found nothing suspicious.
11:14 a.m. – Rocky Rapids – Complainant reported cheques stolen from an organization and fraudulently deposited into the accounts of several local people. Under investigation.
10:51 a.m. – Yellowhead County – Cynthia area – Complainant reported suspects entered a lease site and stole copper wire and caused significant damage. Under investigation.
11:52 a.m. – Drayton Valley – 50 St – Complainant reported two suspects shoplifted several bottles of liquor from a liquor store. Under investigation.
1:47 p.m. – Drayton Valley – Power Ctr Blvd – Complainant reported an incident of shoplifting that occurred on July 22. Under investigation.
2:33 p.m. – Tomahawk – Members attended to assist Parkland firefighters with a truck on fire. Witnesses reported an older Dodge truck that had caught fire and that the male driver had walked away. Member determined that the truck wasn’t stolen and that the driver likely walked away as he should not have been driving.
5:21 p.m. – Drayton Valley – 50 St – Staff at a restaurant reported a vehicle with several occupants leaving and that the driver was impaired. Members conducted a traffic stop and confirmed that the driver was impaired after she provided two breath samples that resulted in “fail” readings. The driver was issued provincial impaired driving sanctions and the vehicle was impounded for 60 days due to a prior driving suspension. The female driver was also arrested on outstanding warrants from Rocky Mountain House; she was held for a telephone bail hearing and subsequently released by a Justice of the Peace.
7:43 p.m. – Drayton Valley – 54 St – Complainant reported being threatened by a female at the shelter pods. Member investigated and a female was arrested and released to appear in court at a later date.
9:28 p.m. – Brazeau County – Hwy 22 – Complainant reported an erratic driver in a silver SUV; passing on a double solid line, tailgating, driving into the ditch. Vehicle not located, member tried to call the owner but it went to voicemail. Under investigation.
July 31
7:43 a.m. – Brazeau County – Twp Rd 503 – Complainant reported that two known suspects were on a neighbour’s property stealing copper. As police were attending a second complainant reported that a male had walked into woods on the same property, apparently fired a gun, and then left again. Members attended and arrested a male and female on the property for break and enter and theft. The initial complainant was also arrested for careless use of a firearm as it was confirmed he shot the tire of the other male’s truck to prevent them from leaving. All parties were known to each other. All three have pending court dates.
10:07 a.m. – Yellowhead County – Complainant reported copper wire stolen from a remote lease site, occurred within the past two days.
3:10 p.m. – Poplar Ridge area – Complainant reported a male in an older pickup stole fencing. Under investigation.
5:30 p.m. – Drayton Valley – Complainant attended the detachment to report receiving a threatening message from a spell wielder. The complainant had used several psychic services online a number of months ago. The complainant was concerned that she was going to be subject to a curse. Member suggested no further contact with the suspect.
