June 27
11:43 a.m. – Brazeau County – Hwy 39/RR63 area – Complainant reported that a male was hand painting a truck and that the truck had a smashed back window. A plate was provided, which was confirmed to have been stolen in Innisfail two days earlier. The truck is believed to be one reported stolen in Blackfalds. Members attended and patrolled the area but the truck could not be located.
1:31 p.m. – Brazeau County – Complainant reported receiving a call from someone claiming to be Amazon regarding the purchase of an iPhone. The complainant was then directed to call a “fraud centre” where she was told she had multiple accounts and needed to prove her innocence by purchasing gift cards and providing the numbers, which was done. Luckily the complainant began questioning the situation when she was instructed to go elsewhere and buy more gift cards, and instead attended the detachment where a member confirmed it was a fraud. Advice was given to avoid future issues. Police suggest calling if you suspect a fraud or to check online at the Canadian Anti-Fraud Center website.
3:53 p.m. – Drayton Valley – Library – Complainant reported that a male patron opened up a computer and stole some internal parts. Member located the male in a store a couple blocks away where he was arrested. Some property stolen from the library was recovered, as was an iPad that belonged to a local male who hadn’t yet reported it as stolen. Charges are pending.
5:37 p.m. – Lodgepole – Member attended a property to assist firefighters responding to a structure fire. Member attended and found a smaller outbuilding and an RV on fire. Fire extinguished, cause unknown.
11:59 p.m. – Drayton Valley – 54 St – Members attended with firefighters to a dumpster fire. Firefighters had extinguished the fire which had also caused damage to a window nearby. Unknown cause.
June 28
6:34 a.m. – Drayton Valley – 52 Ave – Complainant reported his bike stolen from outside the Derrick Lounge, early on June 27. Under investigation.
12:36 p.m. – Drayton Valley – Complainant attended the detachment and reported that his estranged spouse was lying and trying to sell marital property. Member advised that police do not get involved in disputes over marital property but that police will attend to keep the peace if required.
1:13 p.m. – Drayton Valley – Hwy 22 – Complainant reported a truck had spilled unknown product on the highway by McDonalds. Member attended and observed something on the road, but noted the spill was small and there was no pooling. Patrols to locate the suspect truck were negative in both Drayton Valley and Evansburg area. Member advised the highways maintenance contractor.
3:21 p.m. – Drayton Valley – Power Ctr Blvd – Complainant reported a male and female had shoplifted from a store. Complainant requested they be issued trespass notices. Under investigation.
3:38 p.m. – Drayton Valley – 53 St – Complainant reported ongoing issues with suspicious activity and property damage and requested more patrols. Member advised that police are aware of the concerns and would patrol the area.
3:43 p.m. – Drayton Valley – 56 Ave – Complainant reported that he had been assaulted by his roommate, who since fled the scene. Members investigated and a few hours later the suspect was located and arrested. 38-year-old Ashley Rowan of Drayton Valley was charged with assault and failing to comply with probation. Rowan was held for telephone bail hearing and remanded into custody.
June 29
2:55 a.m. – Drayton Valley – Complainant reported that a much older male who had been at the bar was still hanging out with her and her friend, and they were getting weirded out while walking home. Members responded and located them near the old Eldorado School site. The two females, in their 20’s, were provided a courtesy ride home while the male in his 60’s was warned about his creepy behaviour and sent on his way. Alcohol was a likely factor in the event.
9:30 a.m. – Brazeau County – Cynthia area – Complainant reported grounding wire stolen from a lease site.
10:34 a.m. – Brazeau County – RR 71 – Complainant reported a possible impaired driver heading toward Drayton Valley from the Buck Creek Road. Members located the truck and determined that the driver was not impaired. Members then assisted Breton/Thorsby RCMP as the male driver had been involved in a domestic incident in their jurisdiction the previous night. The male was issued an Undertaking to appear in Court in Breton at a later date.
1:58 p.m. – Drayton Valley – 50 St – Complainant reported that a homeless man had been in a restaurant bathroom for a half hour and after he left staff found 10 joints. Member attended and seized the cannabis cigarettes for destruction. The male was identified and is well known to police.
June 30
5:42 a.m. – Drayton Valley – 50 Ave/47 St – Complainant reported two people in the area who appeared to be checking door handles and looking in vehicles. Member patrolled the area but did not locate anyone.
11:15 a.m. – Drayton Valley – 56 Ave – Complainant reported two large pit bulls jumped the fence into her yard and attacked her puppy. No injuries to the puppy and the incident had ended. Information forwarded to Animal Control to investigate.
2:30 p.m. – Brazeau County – Hwy 753 – Complainant reported a blue truck driving erratically, heading north about five km from Cynthia. Given the location and direction of travel the information was sent to Evansburg RCMP.
10:30 p.m. – Drayton Valley – 50 St – Complainant reported a mini excavator stolen from a business yard by an unknown suspect in a black Dodge truck. Under investigation, more information pending.
July 1
3:15 a.m. – Drayton Valley – Complainant called to report the location of a male with warrants. Police are aware of the wanted male’s whereabouts, patrols not made at the time. Members were also busy with other ongoing matters.
1:10 p.m. – Brazeau County – Hwy 22 – Complainant reported a person captured on video surveillance on a lease site, holding copper wire. Member patrolled the area but no one was located.
2:05 p.m. – Drayton Valley – 56 Ave – Complainant reported he could hear a disturbance at a neighbour’s residence. Members attended and found an intoxicated male had threatened his roommate’s girlfriend. Other residents did not want to provide a statement, so the intoxicated male was arrested and held in cells to sober up and to prevent any escalation.
4:40 p.m. – Drayton Valley – Power Ctr Blvd – Complainant reported that a male had shoplifted a laptop and then left in a black van. Plate was provided by a witness. Under investigation.
6:15 p.m. – Drayton Valley – 56 Ave – Complainant reported a neighbour’s dog again acting aggressively. The dog was taken inside by its owner. Information forwarded to animal control.
11:27 a.m. – Drayton Valley – Members received information about a black crotch rocket style motorbike riding on sidewalks and weaving in and out of traffic, in the area of the Omniplex after the fireworks show. A member located the bike on 50 Street near the south end of town and attempted a traffic stop, but the bike with two riders took off at high speed, heading north on the ring road. The member had been able to obtain a plate, but found it was not active on any motorbike. Under investigation, motorbike located on subsequent file.
July 2
2:15 a.m. – Drayton Valley – 55 St – Complainant reported finding a motorbike in his back yard, and that he had no idea who it belonged to. Members attended and determined it was the bike that fled from police earlier. Motorbike was towed for examination. Under investigation.
3:27 a.m. – Brazeau County – RR 73/Twp Rd 490 – 911 hang-up received for a crash notification. Dispatch called the number and a male said he crashed into the ditch but had already left and didn’t require police. Member contacted the male who made an unrealistic statement as to his current whereabouts, and stated he was on his way to work. A second call was received regarding a truck in the ditch. Members attended and found a newer F350 in the ditch with obvious damage. Alcohol may have been a factor. Under investigation.
9:42 a.m. – Drayton Valley – Complainant reported being assaulted by a group home resident where she is employed. Member investigated and found there were no injuries, and the complainant was only asking for the resident to be warned. Member spoke to the resident who wanted to apologize for his actions.
11:07 a.m. – Drayton Valley – 50 St – Complainant reported a male shoplifted a flat of beer, before leaving on a bicycle. Possible suspect identified, under investigation.
11:37 a.m. – Drayton Valley – 50 Ave – Complainant attended the detachment to report being assaulted by an acquaintance. Under investigation.
2:14 p.m. – Brazeau County – RR 80 – Complainant reported ongoing issues with a neighbour and suspects the neighbour of cutting utility lines. Member unable to prove the allegations, advice given.
July 3
9:51 a.m. – Rocky Rapids area – Complainant reported being assaulted by a family member a couple days earlier. Under investigation.
11:27 a.m. – Drayton Valley – Member responded to a hang-up 911 call. Investigation lead to a residence in town where one male was frustrated that his roommate/landlord isn’t dealing with issues which resulted in him having a dog bite on his leg. Paramedics attended and treated the bite but remaining issues are landlord/tenant matters that police can’t solve.
July 4
4:45 a.m. – Drayton Valley – 54 Ave – Complainant reported two suspects stealing gas from two parked vehicles. The complainant yelled at the pair who then left in a white Ford truck. Patrols made but the suspects weren’t located. Two trucks were found with their fuel tanks drilled. Under investigation.
