RCMP have arrested a 43-year-old man with multiple warrants in Parkland County following a short stand-off with the suspect.
On June 5, officers from the Central Alberta District Crime Reduction Unit (CAD CRU) say they attended a property in Parkland County in order to locate and arrest 43-year-old Jason Wayne Norman, a repeat offender with warrants. Officials say RCMP obtained a warrant to enter the property and arrest Norman. Upon approaching the property, RCMP allege they observed Norman brandishing a firearm. Police say when Norman was advised he was under arrest he allegedly threatened police and went in a stolen camper trailer still holding the firearm. Mounties say they contained the scene and called in additional resources, however, they later observed Norman fleeing the camper and running through a field. Police say they were able to subdue Norman and arrest him.
A search warrant of the property was executed and police recovered:
- One loaded shotgun;
- Two stolen vehicles;
- A stolen holiday trailer;
- A stolen flat deck trailer; and
- A stolen generator worth $70 0000.
RCMP say they have charged Norman, who has no fixed address with:
- Driving while prohibited
- Uttering threats
- Resist arrest
- Possession of property obtained by crime over $5000 (x4)
- Possession of property obtained by crime under $5000 (x2)
- Possession of a controlled substance
- Weapons offences (x4)
- Fraudulent concealment
- Fail to comply with release conditions (x9)
Mounties say Norman was taken before a justice of the peace who remanded him into custody and set his court date for June 10, at the Alberta Court of Justice in Evansburg.
