More than 300 athletes from 15 Lifesaving Sports clubs, including the Drayton Valley Lifesavers, will be converging on the Brookfield Residential YMCA in Calgary from April, 5-7 for the 2024 Alberta and Northwest Territories Pool Life Saving Championships and Junior Games.
Lifesaving Sport is a unique program in that it combines athletic prowess with lifesaving techniques and rescue equipment. It is the only sport where skills primarily used for humanitarian purposes are applied to competition. This event is of significant importance to our community, serving as a platform for athletes to showcase their swimming and lifesaving skills.
Organizers say athletes will compete in events such as Obstacle Swim, Obstacle Relay, Line Tow, Rescue Medley, Manikin Carry with Fins, and more!
The clubs that will be in attendance are as follows:
- Calgary Winter Club Tsunamis
- Camrose Tsunamis
- Canadian Armed Forces Lifesaving Club
- City of Calgary Poseidons
- Cochrane Water Ninjas
- Drayton Valley Lifesavers
- Hinton Stingrays
- Lacombe Sea Lions
- Okotoks Sharks
- Pincher Creek Survivors
- Spruce Grove Tri-Leisure Blue Fins
- Town of Claresholm Vikings
- University of Lethbridge Max Bell Mantas

All are welcome to attend and watch the competition. The opening ceremony takes place on Saturday, April 6, from 8:30 – 9:00 a.m.
