February 22
1:00 p.m. – Drayton Valley – 50 St S/Hwy 22 – Members responded to a propane tanker rollover at the intersection. The eastbound truck had been turning north onto 50 St when somehow the connection between the truck and trailer either broke or came apart, causing the tanker to roll and come to a stop against a light post. No leaks were reported and the contents were offloaded to another unit prior to the tanker being up righted.
2:10 p.m. – Brazeau County – Berrymoor area – Complainant reported that sometime since the 17th, oilfield related equipment was stolen from a lease site. Under investigation.
2:23 p.m. – Drayton Valley – Ricochet Aquatic Center – “Man gets himself in hot water at the pool.” Member attended the pool for a report of a male committing an indecent act in the hot tub. Staff noticed this and turned off the jets which caused the suspect to exit the tub and then leave the building. Investigation had already determined his identity but the task of locating him was made easier as he returned at about 6:00 p.m. and re-entered the hot tub. Members then arrested the male out of the hot tub. 37-year-old Joshua Charters of New Brunswick was charged with Indecent Exposure and held for a telephone bail hearing. Charters was subsequently released by a Justice of the Peace to attend Court at a later date, with a condition banning him from the pool.
5:41 p.m. – Drayton Valley – Former Drayton Christian School – Complainant reported seeing a male trespassing at the location. Members attended and located an adult male who said he was looking inside and looking for mementos, as a friend had done this years ago at another school. Seeing as the building was still recognizable as a school, members pointed out the security fencing and “no trespassing” signs and confirmed he understood their meaning. The male was warned that he could be charged with several different offences and told not to return. This suspect also has no criminal history and is not otherwise known to police.
6:16 p.m. – Brazeau County – RR 80 – Complainant reported that sometime over the past 24 hours, his 1995 GMC dually pickup and 2020 Highland Ridge travel trailer were stolen from where they had been parked at a residence in Country Style Mobile Home Park. Under investigation.
7:52 p.m. – Drayton Valley – 62 St area – Complainant reported a male seen on camera entering buildings on a lease site, time delay of about 30 minutes. Members attended and found several unlocked buildings had been entered and one door forced open but no suspects located. Complainant believed nothing was missing and based on surveillance a possible suspect was identified, though the image was of poor quality.
February 23
8:59 a.m. – Drayton Valley – Complainant attended the detachment reporting that he received a text from an unknown number asking about buying psilocybin mushrooms (aka magic mushrooms). He responded but then subsequently told the unidentified texter that he couldn’t help them. Following that his house was egged and via some third-party information the complainant had suspicions on who may be responsible. Member suggested he re-evaluate responding to such messages in the future.
12:59 p.m. – Yellowhead County – Elk River Rd area – Complainant reported theft of cable from a lease site; occurred sometime since the beginning of the month.
2:43 p.m. – Brazeau County – Twp Rd 504 – Complainant reported a building broken into and cable stolen from a lease site.
6:51 p.m. – Brazeau County – Poplar Ridge – Complainant reported her nephew had run away and believed he was staying elsewhere. Members aware of the situation but attended and spoke to the male youth who stated he didn’t feel safe where he had been staying. The complainant was reportedly then contacting the people in the second residence in a harassing manner. Member advised the complainant that due to the age of the youth he is able to make such decisions and to stop harassing the other party. Both parties plan to deal with the matter in Court and Child and Family Services are aware.
10:03 p.m. – Drayton Valley – Twp Rd 490/43 St – Member patrolling the ring road stopped a truck observed speeding. A MAS (mandatory alcohol screening) demand was given and the driver provided two samples of his breath, both resulting in “fail” readings. The male driver was issued a provincial impaired driving prohibition and the truck was impounded.
February 24
3:43 a.m. – Drayton Valley – 50 St N – Member on patrol stopped a truck with a mismatched plate. Investigation lead to the seizure of the plate, seizure of a small quantity of meth and the issuing of two tickets to the driver for having no registration and improper use of a license plate. Member later confirmed the plate was stolen. Under investigation for possible further charges.
6:39 p.m. – Drayton Valley – 43 Ave – Complainant reported that while out for a walk earlier, a dark coloured truck pulled up by her and someone pointed what she believed was a nerf or water gun at her. Complainant reported there were two males in their 20’s in the truck and that they laughed prior to driving away. No plate obtained for the truck and no apparent video in the area where the incident occurred.
8:51 p.m. – Brazeau County – RR 80 – Complainant reported an attempted break and enter to a residence in Country Style Mobile Home Park. Member investigated and determined no entry had been gained. Potential suspects identified, likely related to a recent eviction from the residence. Under investigation.
February 25
12:15 a.m. – Drayton Valley – 50 St – Complainant reported an unknown fellow hotel guest had followed him to his room and began kicking his door and yelling at him to go back to his own country. Members attended but were unable to locate the suspect. Members were quickly called back as the male returned and was threatening the complainant. Members located a heavily intoxicated male who was arrested and lodged in cells. As the complainant did not want any charges, the model citizen was held in cells overnight to sober up.
12:06 p.m. – Drayton Valley – 58 St – Member on patrol observed a suspicious truck and several infractions. A traffic stop was conducted at the entrance to a car wash, where it appeared the driver was planning to hide. Member determined that the driver was suspended and the truck was uninsured. Several tickets were issued and the truck was towed.
February 26
2:40 p.m. – Drayton Valley – 46 St – Complainant reported that his landlord entered his room, knocked over his game console and was screaming at him. Members responded and spoke to both parties and advised it appeared to be a landlord/tenant issue. The landlord was told she can’t just go into his room at will, let alone knock over his property.
5:08 p.m. – Drayton Valley – 46 St – Complainant called again advising that his landlord won’t stop harassing him. Complainant stated the landlord had turned off power to his room and keeps yelling at him. Members attended again and spoke to both, warning the landlord of her actions, specifically that the complainant has rights and she can’t just turn off utilities.
5:26 p.m. – Drayton Valley – 50 St – Complainant reported either theft or mischief; unknown culprit attended a gas station and broke the lock to the underground tank, possibly to try to steal fuel or put something in the tank.
7:43 p.m. – Drayton Valley – 46 St – Landlord/tenant dispute part 3. Complainant called again reporting that his landlord was intoxicated and yelling at him and shutting off his power. Members again attended and tried to resolve the issues with limited success. The landlord was again warned about having boundaries to her behaviour.
8:59 p.m. – Drayton Valley – 46 St – Landlord/tenant dispute part 4. Complainant reported that once again his landlord had turned off his power. Members were now devoid of patience and upon attendance the female was arrested for mischief and assault. Due to intoxication she was transported to cells to sober up. Once sober she was released to appear in court at a later date with a condition to not mess with the electrical panel.
February 27
1:26 a.m. – Brazeau County – Violet Grove area – Complainant returned home after being away for about a week to find that his 2008 Ford F350 truck had been stolen. Tuck is dark grey and had Alberta plate CMP5073 attached when stolen. Under investigation.
3:46 p.m. – Drayton Valley area – Complainant reported her grandmother missing for more than 60 years. Last seen in the area, but not since she left to visit family elsewhere. Under investigation to locate more information as the female would now be well over 100 years old.
4:26 p.m. – Brazeau County – Twp Rd 504 – Complainant reported that on the 26th people were hunting Elk on a neighbouring piece of land, and when one Elk was shot the herd ran across the field and through his fence, damaging it. Member suggested the complainant speak to Fish and Wildlife.
February 28
9:48 a.m. – Brazeau County – RR 85 – Complainant reported a truck and trailer blocking the road, south of Hwy 621. Member attended and determined there was the vehicle had succumbed to the perils of the ditch, that safety cones were out, that help was coming and vehicles were still able to pass.
1:07 p.m. – Drayton Valley – 43A St – Complainant reported her bank account had been hacked and someone had attempted to take money out. The complainant had received a call from someone claiming to be from the bank who got her to download several apps. Under investigation. Police strongly recommend verifying any such calls directly with the bank or company involved prior to taking any questionable actions.
