In a post to Facebook, the Village of Breton cleanup crew worked all night and have 1.4 km left of 39 that still need work, this following a major spill on Thursday night.
Areas still closed are sections of Highways 20 and 39, east of Drayton Valley.
RCMP say the highways will remain closed for some time though.
“Kudos to all of you for keeping your frustrations to a minimum and being empathic humans to everyone involved. Makes me very proud to be a part of such a great community,” a Village spokesperson writes.
Mounties confirmed on Friday that the substance spilled was vacuum gas oil (VGO), which is highly flammable, hazardous if aspirated into the lungs, and irritating to the eyes and skin.
We are trying to get an update from the company involved and will update this story when possible.
