Drayton Christian School and HW Pickup Middle School are finally moving to the new Powerhouse Campus for the start of 2024.
The move was originally announced in 2021. It was said at the time that the project would be complete sometime during the 2023-24 school year.
Wild Rose School Division (WRSD) takes ownership of the building on Dec. 15.
The division adds that in order to accommodate movement of materials from one building to the next, both will have no classes on Dec. 22, Jan. 8 and Jan. 9, just before and after the regularly scheduled holiday break.
A public open house will be held as soon as possible along with a formal grand opening.
“The only change for student transportation will be that students from both schools will be dropped off at and picked up from their new location. You may see buses at the Powerhouse Campus as drivers acquaint themselves with the new bus lanes,” WRSD says in a release.
Thank you to the community, families, teachers, staff, students, Facilities department, Town of Drayton Valley, the Krawford construction crew, Alberta Infrastructure and Alberta Education for your support, patience and willingness to make this project happen.”
The name Powerhouse comes from the original name of Drayton Valley.
This will be the fourth new school building in WRSD since Evergreen Elementary School in Drayton Valley opened on September 1, 2020. The two other new schools since finished are Charlotte Small Elementary School in Condor and David Thompson High School in Leslieville.
