November 16
9:35 a.m. – Drayton Valley – Complainant reported receiving a phone call from “Telus” advising him he qualified for a free iPad. Complainant gave the caller his SIN and Drivers License numbers and then realized it was a scam. Note: Telus would not require this information to give you a free iPad
11:11 a.m. – Tomahawk area – Complainant attended the detachment reporting harassment via text and email from her ex-boyfriend. While providing a statement to police the complainant reported being assaulted and choked by her ex at an earlier date. Unknown where the male is located, so a warrant will be applied for.
6:05 p.m. -Drayton Valley – Madsen Ave – Complainant reported she had fallen victim to the “Grandparents scam”. Complainant received a call where a male claiming to be her grandson was in jail and needed cash bail paid of almost $10,000. The complainant withdrew this money from the bank and turned it over to a male who attended her residence. Note: If you receive such a call take steps to verify the information, including calling police. Police officers do NOT attend residences to retrieve bail money and the Canadian justice system does not normally require such exorbitant amounts.
11:39 p.m. – Brazeau County – Hwy 22 – Member conducted a traffic stop and observed drug paraphernalia. A search of the truck located a quantity of suspected methamphetamine, which was seized. The driver was issued a 24-hour suspension.
November 17
10:41 a.m. – Drayton Valley – 43 St – Complainant reported falling victim to the Grandparents scam after receiving a call that his grandson was in custody in Grande Prairie. Complainant is out $8500. Under investigation. Police suggest verifying information before taking any actions as police officers in Canada do not make such calls seeking cash, nor will they attend a residence to retrieve cash. Such large cash bail payments are generally not required for any investigation local police will deal with.
10:00 p.m. – Drayton Valley – Power Ctr Blvd – Complainant reported a female was using drugs in a changeroom and has since moved to the bathroom and won’t leave. Member attended and removed the female from the premise and also charged her with shoplifting after recovering several items of clothing.
November 18
9:18 a.m. – Brazeau County – Twp Rd 505/RR 73 – Drayton Valley member attended with a member from Traffic Services to a report of a male passed out in a running car. The complainant suspected the driver was impaired. Roadside testing was completed and the driver was issued a provincial impaired driving suspension. He was also charged with possessing a controlled substance and failing to comply with probation.
1:52 p.m. – Drayton Valley – Complainant attended the detachment to report that her ex had sexually assaulted her the previous night. Members investigated and subsequently arrested the ex who was held for a telephone bail hearing. He was released by a Justice of the Peace, but transported to Edmonton Remand Center as he was wanted on unrelated “pay or stay” traffic warrants.
November 19
2:56 a.m. – Drayton Valley – 50 St/49 St – Member on patrol noticed a pickup truck parked with lights on and running by Burger Baron. Member recalled the truck had been there when she passed by about an hour earlier. Member spoke to the driver and determined he was sober, but extremely tired stating he arrived around 9 p.m. and must have fallen asleep. The driver was issued a 24-hour suspension for fatigue and was given a ride home.
4:18 a.m. – Drayton Valley – 55 Ave – Complainant reported two male suspects broke into his truck, but left after setting off the alarm. Suspects left in an older green Chevy truck with a tidy tank in the back. Member patrolled the area but did not locate the suspects or vehicle they were in.
6:22 p.m. – Drayton Valley – 52 Ave – Complainant reported a person sleeping on the floor of the post office. Member attended and woke the male who appeared to be under the influence of a drug. Members provided the male with a more appropriate place to sleep, courtesy of the King, and seized a small amount of suspected Fentanyl for destruction. The male was released when sober.
7:22 p.m. – Brazeau County – Complainant attended the detachment to report that her fiancé had assaulted her that morning. Members investigated and the male was located, arrested and charged. He was held for a telephone bail hearing and subsequently released by a Justice of the Peace to appear in court at a later date.
7:32 p.m. – Drayton Valley – 50 St – Complainant reported a male and female had stolen a Dodge Durango from a restaurant parking lot. Member attended and from surveillance video determined the two had arrived in that vehicle and likely locked the keys inside. Once they gained entry they left the parking lot, but not before backing into a different parked truck. Under investigation.
November 20
3:37 a.m. – Drayton Valley – 50 St – Complainant reported a person sleeping in a bank ATM vestibule. Members attended and advised the male he needed to leave, which he did.
11:20 a.m. – Brazeau County – RR 75 – Complainant called to report that her car had caught fire. Members attended with Fire Dep’t members and determined that the female had no insurance and was a suspended driver. The female was charged for the two offences and a small amount of methamphetamine was also seized.
3:00 p.m. – Drayton Valley – 51 St – Complainant reported a female had shoplifted about $600 worth of property from a store. The complainant provided a detailed description of the suspect and surveillance video is pending. Member identified a suspect for potential charges, under investigation.
3:01 p.m. – Lodgepole – Complainant reported a suspicious vehicle parked on a tenant’s property, possibly related to a hit and run in Edmonton. Member’s are aware of the vehicle and do not believe it is the same vehicle.
November 21
9:15 a.m. – Drayton Valley – Shelter Pods – Members dispatched to a report of people not leaving at checkout time. Members ensured the two people left and a ticket was issued to one who had been previously banned from the location.
1:27 p.m. – Drayton Valley – Members attended to a report of a deceased male. Investigation found the death wasn’t suspicious. Medical Examiner consulted but not investigating further.
3:17 p.m. – Drayton Valley – Hwy 22/50 St N – Members responded to a report of a collision, SUV on its side. The elderly driver of the SUV had apparently minor injuries. Video from a nearby business indicated that the SUV turned into town, across the path of an oncoming northbound car.
8:27 p.m. – Drayton Valley – 47 St – Members responded to a third-party report of a domestic assault. Investigation determined that the male had assaulted the female during an argument and threatened to harm himself. Members spoke to and arrested the male who was held for a telephone bail hearing. The male was subsequently released by a Justice of the Peace to appear in court at a later date.
8:00 p.m. – Brazeau County – Lodgepole area – Complainant reported finding a leak in a large propane tank located on a lease site. Propane was leaking from what appeared to be a bullet hole.
November 22
1:52 a.m. – Drayton Valley – 50 St – Complainant reported a male had been dropped off at a hotel and had nowhere to stay. Member attended and assisted the male in securing shelter for the night.
6:35 a.m. – Drayton Valley – 50 Ave – Complainant reported a skid steer and trailer stolen overnight. The units had been recovered by Breton RCMP prior to anyone knowing they were missing. Initial theft under investigation.
2:42 p.m. – Brazeau County – Complainant reported to another detachment that his Birth Certificate went missing from his residence, sometime over a 1-year period while the house was for sale and he was living elsewhere.
3:25 p.m. – Brazeau County – File opened to investigate third party report of possible sexual interference. No further details to be provided.
8:24 p.m. – Drayton Valley – 50 St – Complainant reporting that the wheelchair bound female was now in a store bathroom and not coming out. Members attended and determined the female was unable to deal with her own health issues. Paramedics were called and transported her to hospital.
November 23
1:45 a.m. – Drayton Valley – File generated to investigate a report by the above noted wheelchair bound female that two suspects stole her AISH money while “helping” her get around. Under investigation.
4:10 a.m. – Drayton Valley – 53 Ave – Complainant reported that the female police dealt with at 8:22 p.m. the previous evening was outside the building causing a disturbance. Members attended and after a discussion advised her and her male friend (who was trying to calm her down) that this was not an appropriate time of day to be moving.
6:26 a.m. – Brazeau County – Poplar Ridge area – Complainant reported that sometime overnight suspects entered a business yard and broke into tool boxes on vehicles, stealing tools. Under investigation.
