Alberta RCMP App – The AB RCMP mobile app is now available as a free download through the Apple App and Google Play Stores. The app does not track or monitor users in any way. It provides easy access to Online Crime Reporting, Crime Mapping, Detachment Information, Project Lock Up, Crime Stoppers, as well as RCMP news and social media accounts.
Surveillance Camera Registry – If you have a surveillance system at your home or business, you can register it with the Drayton Valley RCMP to help officers identify locations that may have valuable evidence to aid in investigations. July 20
2:27 a.m. – Drayton Valley – Hwy 22 – Members received a report of a suspicious person in the field near the Omniplex. Members attended and located a male matching the description. Members spoke with the male who advised them that he was just making his way to his camp. They say there was no evidence of any nefarious activity occurring.
8:13 a.m. – Brazeau County – Twp Rd 512 – Police requested to attend with Parkland County to a unruly resident’s property to keep the peace while they spray their weeds for five hours. Members spoke with the county about other options to deal with the lack of weed control compliance other than using a police escort to spray the weeds. County looking into it.
9:59 p.m. – Drayton Valley – 44A Ave – Complainant reported that her neighbor’s son’s basketball keeps going towards her house and holiday trailer while he is shooting hoops and misses the net. She believes it is causing damage to her trailer. Tonight, she took his basketball and kept it. Her neighbor then came over to ask for his son’s ball back but she refused to return it. Members retrieved the ball, explaining she is not allowed to keep her neighbor’s things, and returned it to the neighbor. Members discussed options with the neighbor to move the hoop to avoid having the negative interaction with his neighbor.
July 21
1:00 p.m. – Brazeau County – RR 71 – Complainant called police looking for advice as approximately one month ago two 19-year-old males who were out for a rip went through his crop land and did damage. Member advised the complainant that this is a criminal offence and the males could be charged criminally with mischief. Complainant thankful for the info; advised at this point he would like to try to come to an agreement with the males and their parents before proceeding criminally.
2:24 p.m. – Brazeau County – RR 65 – Members called to a suspicious gold Dodge truck parked on the side of the road with it’s hazard lights on. A female was out on the road and a male was waving his hands. Members attended, truck had left, but a male was still there. Members spoke with the male who advised he and his brother got in an argument and rather than going to fisticuffs he got out of the truck. Male’s wife was coming to pick him up.
11:30 p.m. – Brazeau County – Hwy 22 – Police on proactive patrol and stopped a vehicle for a provincial infraction. While talking to the driver, the officer noted open liquor in the vehicle. Vehicle searched and during the search, members located four guns in the car, one still loaded, as well as multiple beer cans and empty casings. The two male occupants of the vehicle were arrested for unsafe transport of a firearm and possession of a loaded firearm in a vehicle.
July 23
12:38 a.m. – Drayton Valley – 55 Ave – Police called to a report of youth egging cars. Members patrolled the area but did not locate the youth. Members later located a group of youth at the DV Christian School playground but there were no bikes or eggs. These youth did provide false names to the members, to which they found out is a criminal offence as well as a bylaw ticket. Youths ticketed under the local bylaw for obstructing a police officer. Members attempted to follow up with the complainant to assist in connecting the youth to the egging, but all calls to the complainant, both that night and the next day, went unanswered.
3:11 a.m. – Brazeau County – Whitby Hall – Police were called to a missing wedding guest. Complainant called advising her husband is missing. He was at a wedding and texted her dad for a pick up at 12:45 a.m. but was not there when her dad showed up. It is now 3 a.m. and no one knows where he is. While members were making their way to Whitby Hall, the complainant called back and advised he had been located by the search party at the wedding. Turns out, her husband had found a friend’s truck to be rather comfy and had fallen asleep inside of it.
July 24
8:13 p.m. – Drayton Valley – RR 73 – Complainant called the police to report that his ex-wife was sending him harassing texts and not allowing him to talk to his daughter as per the parenting order. Members reviewed the text and they did not meet the threshold of a criminal offence. A parenting order is not police enforceable. Members spoke with both parties and encouraged them to get along and follow the parenting order for the sake of their daughter.
July 25
10:58 a.m. – Drayton Valley – Brougham Drive – Complainant attended the RCMP detachment to report a fraud. Complainant stated they had sent $400 to hold an item from the Facebook page “Drayton Valley What’s Going On”. When she went to pick up the item, it was not there and the people at the given address did not know anything about it. Members investigating.
July 26
3:11 a.m. – Brazeau County – Hwy 22 – Police received a Land Rover crash alert just off Hwy 22 and RR 70. Members attended and located the same male from a domestic abuse call still highly intoxicated and having crashed the Land Rover into a tree. Roadside sample taken from the male and he blew a fail. Impaired Driving Roadside sanctions issued to the male. Vehicle seized.
7:49 p.m. – Drayton Valley – 47 Ave – Complainant reported a break and enter in progress; female seen smashing a window and entering a residence. Members attended and cleared the location; no suspect found. Owner contacted and it was determined her mother was the suspect and she didn’t want her charged. Members unable to locate the suspect at the time.
8:05 p.m. – Drayton Valley – 47 St – Complainant reported being a victim of the “grandparents’ scam.” Complainant had received a call from someone posing as a grandson who needed $8,000 for bail. Subsequent call received from someone claiming to be a police officer in Red Deer requiring more money for a lawyer; another $12,000 was sent via courier to an address in Quebec. Unfortunately, this is a common scam. Under investigation.
10:14 p.m. – Brazeau County – Poplar Ridge – Complainant reported a road rage incident where a BB gun was used to shatter her rear car window. Members investigated and found a more complex situation than initially reported. A male suspect was located and charged due to the shattered window; and the female complainant was also charged as the male had been maced. File open for further investigation, further charges possible as more evidence was obtained.
10:32 p.m. – Drayton Valley – Jubilee Ave – Complainant reported dogs barking in a vehicle preventing him from sleeping. Member attended when possible; dogs appeared safe and healthy, unable to reach the owner of the dogs. Likely better dealt with by hotel management at the scene.
July 27
2:00 a.m. – Yellowhead County – Elk River Rd area – Member attended a lease site for a report of a vehicle seen on surveillance cameras. Vehicle was not located in the area or en route. Contractors’ trailer had been entered and undetermined items stolen. Under investigation.
3:58 a.m. – Drayton Valley – File opened to assist in checking the wellbeing of a female; daughter worried about her mother. Members located the female later in the day and transported her to the Centennial Center for treatment.
