In an attempt to continue providing quality waste and recycling services, Drayton Valley’s curbside waste and recycling collection will soon be changing as the Town undertakes services with a new provider.
Starting Monday, Oct. 31, garbage collection will take place on Mondays, Wednesdays, and Thursdays, depending on the address, say Town officials. A map outlining the new collection days based on the location is shown below.
Officials say these days have been chosen to allow the service provider more time to serve the community and to allow time during the week, should any bins be missed, to be flexible or fix any equipment breakdowns. This will also ensure residents won’t have to wait another week to have their waste collected.
On your collection day, residents are asked to ensure the garbage bin is out for collection by 7:00 a.m. All waste must be bagged, inside your bin, with the lid fully closed and there must be clearance of 1 metre on all sides of your bin, as well as above. Overflowing bins will not be collected.
In addition, curbside recycling pickup will be changing to Mondays for all residents. On collection day, residents are asked to have their recycling curbside by 7:00 a.m. Blue bags should be a cart width away from the garbage bin along the sidewalk or curb, to the left of the garbage bin, and visible from the road. Residents can put out as many blue bags as they like – there is no limit. Recyclables must be in blue recycling bags. Recyclables in garbage bags, clear bags, or other containers will not be collected.
You may recycle the following items:
• Newsprint/Heavy Paper: newspaper, magazines, phone books, catalogues, flyers
• Mixed Paper: office paper, junk mail, shredded paper, etc.
• Boxboard: cereal boxes, pasta boxes, etc.
• Containers: food cans, beverage containers, hard plastic #1-7 (labelled on the container), deposit items
• Corrugated Cardboard: flattened and folder beneath the blue bag, no larger than 2 ft. x 3 ft.
PLEASE NOTE – these changes come into effect on Monday, October 31, 2022. Curbside service will remain the same until this date. For more information, contact the Town at 780-514-2200 or visit https://www.draytonvalley.ca/waste-collection-services/.
