Drayton Valley town council will be hosting a public hearing at council chambers next week regarding distance requirements for cannabis and liquor sales.
The intended goal of the hearing on Oct. 12, 2022, at 9:00 a.m., is to receive comments, concerns and questions from the public regarding Bylaw 2022-10-D, which seeks amendments to cannabis processing retail and retail liquor separation distance requirements in the community’s Land Use Bylaw.
Amendments include:
- Increasing separation distance for cannabis processing to 200 metres from 150 metres.
- Ensuring retail cannabis and retail liquor separation requirements are consistent with each other by adding religious assembly to retail cannabis separation requirements.
- Redefining the separation measurement distance to occur from building footprint (where present) or retail bay (where applicable), rather than property lines.
- Addition of various sub-class definitions to the glossary to better define types of uses/operations.
Officials note the public hearing will be virtually broadcasted via WebEx, the Town’s online streaming platform.
